Possibly moving to Kokomo.
Hi everyone! I might be moving from Crawfordsville to Kokomo for a job. I'm looking for a pet-friendly one bedroom apartment that's reasonably priced. I have a job interview on Tuesday with Monumental Life Insurance off of 31 so I'd like to live as close to there as I possibly can. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Also, what is there to do in Kokomo? Thanks so much!

I can't suggest any apartments, but there's plenty of cheap housing - you'd be better off buying an inexpensive house than renting, and there's plenty available. As for activites in Kokomo - not much more than what there was in Crawfordsville. Kokomo is very kids-kids sports oriented, and much activity is centered around that. Kokomo is mostly chain restaurants - if you want more night life or cultural activities, you'll have to go down to Indy (about an hour away). If I wanted to hike or camp, I usually went down your way towards Turkey Run, Kokomo is all flat farm country. The singles scene isn't much there either, the town is somewhat clannish and may not be easy to break in for some people - again you may have to go down towards Indy for social life.

Hello AshleeMae
Way to go AshleeMae, I am from a town that is just 20 minutes from Kokomo, called Peru. Kokomo is a good choice. If you want to know more about Kokomo there is a visitors center on the north side of the city, right along side U.S. 31. It is call the Kokomo Indiana Visitors Bureau and there have been several job fairs held there in the past. Their phone number is 765-457-6802. So good luck and I wish you much success.

Have you checked any of the local banks in and around Kokomo for listings on forclosures.

I would think twice about anything that was seized in a drug raid were Meth was processed. I recently saw a special on Meth and some man was going through drug detox because he had bought a home that was previously used as a meth operation and it left the home unsafe to live in do to the high level of toxins. He had no prior history of drug abuse and now he is being treated for meth poisoning. I don't know where this took place in case anyone wants to know. But it is something that can happen in any town now that Meth is so widespread.

Before you move to Kokomo, please make certain that Chrysler will not be shutting down their plants in that area. Something like 6,000 people depend upon Chrysler for employment in Kokomo and if that plant closes it will set off a chain reaction to the other industries tied into Chrysler in Kokomo.

Fortunately Kokomo has 3 colleges, (2 of them universities) and two Hospitals. So they have other sources of income. Also if any of the Chrysler Auto plants in Indiana shut down permanently it is going to set off a chain reaction in all of indiana, not just Kokomo. There thousands of Automotive jobs at stake in Indiana. Should they all go down Indiana is going to hurting no matter where you are at.
