Hi There, We are moving from phoenix, az to Indianapolis in mid june. I need some words of encouragment to help me do this. I have lived in Phoenix my whole entire life (42years) and I have always hated here. to many reasons why! I am thinking about the move way too much alway worrying if I would ever make there, are there good jobs, would the weather bother me, alwaying thinking about the "WHAT IF's"... I know people move clear across the country on a whelm. in broken down cars, vans. trucks, or whatever they are driving and they make it seem like it's no big deal. WOW!! my hats off to them. I am going to do this I just need to a bigger set of (you know what it is). lol we don't know anyone there all my family lives here in Az. My wife and kids are ready to go right now if they had it thier way. lol we have been looking in the Avon, Brownsburg area for housing hope they are good cities. thanks for your advise if you have any. bye for now Larry

You will be fine and I have a feeling you will enjoy living in Indy. Avon and Brownsburg are both great area and as I am sure you have already noticed you can a lot of bang for you buck compared to AZ.
If you have lived in Phoenix your whole life I am guessing the weather will be a bit of an adjustment for the first year or two, however you really learn to appreciate and take advantage of the nice days here. As far as not knowing anyone, I wouldn't worry about that too much. Hoosiers are some of the nicest and welcoming people around. You will have friends before you know it. |

No deadly creepy crawlies here either!
If you can, come have a visit before you leap in headfirst.

I'm in Tempe/Chandler area right now but I'm moving to southwestern Indiana (Evansville) at the end of the month. I sold my house in Tempe over a weekend in April and flew out to Indiana at the end of April.
I am AMAZED at how much house you can get in Indiana. It's the same amazement I experienced moving from northern CA to metro Phoenix back in 1995. ITA with PP who said the people in Indiana are very friendly--another culture shock for me. People just wave to strangers driving through their neighborhood (as my realtor was driving me around). |

![]() 100% agreement with this. We found the same thing when we did our scouting trip in April, too. (We're also from the Phoenix area.) The difference was awesome! |

The humidity will kill you. The cold will freeze you. The tornados will destroy your house, and the rain will drown everything else.
There you go, the worst stereotypes about Indiana weather. Personally I say go for it, but I agree that you need to look before jumping. I do have a question though - why Indy? Of course on this site 99% of the people who post in their home cities LOVE their city, so all of us think you are making the correct decision, but it seems a little odd. Anyways... Another thing is that a few years ago IN had a lot cheaper insurance rate compared to AZ. I have family out in Tucson so occasionally we compare. |
