Ok, several votes for Brown County and one including Nashville. I tried checking housing costs on ReMax and they seemed a bit pricey in the Nashville area. Now, everyone, tell me why you choose Brown County over any of the others with state and national forests and fishing lakes?
Oh, paptofour, thanks for the heads up on Perry County, we have added that to our list.

Brown County has the location location location moniker. It's a popular destination in the state, so the housing is going to be jacked up. It's still gorgeous though.

Check out Dubois County
If you want to go this far south, check out Dubois County. We've got hills, a thriving medical community, highspeed internet, and active cultural and 'retirement oriented' programs. Search the internet for Jasper, Dubois County, and southwest Indiana.
Happy hunting!

Jasper is beautiful. It was one of the most stunning Catholic Churches I've ever seen.

Southern Indiana Retirement?
There are many choices that will fit your needs. One that comes to mind is New Harmony Indiana. A small town with a rich history. Population of 600..very quiet town with lots of retirees. has a nice hotel and inn because it is a destination retreat for conferences of all types. Sits on the wabash river...that's not a positive right now because they have high water occasionally. Evansville is 30 miles west for shopping and medical care.
I have visited Madison Indiana and it appears to be a very nice town also.

Sorry, I don't fit into the common "senior" profile. I have been to Florida in winter and loved it but I can't take all those long months of heat and humidity in summer.
