I will take a stab at this:
Devonshire Gardens - I have a friend who lives there. They seem ok. They are behind Washington Square Mall. I think it is a good enough area; I guess that really depends what you mean by "good area," that can be a subjective term. In general terms though, it is a good area.
Village Green - I have no idea about the complex itself, but Village Green is far south Green River Road by I-164. This area is good. Primarily residential in nature.
Kimber Green - These are off the Lloyd Expwy and Burkhardt. By Evansville standards, this is one of the worst intersections for traffic. Mind you I never thought it was that bad; but by E-ville standards, it is pretty rough. At christmas, even I hate driving over there. Aside from that, it is a decent area. It is pretty suburban, all sorts of chain stores and restaurants. Super Wal-Mart and Target Greatland are on that corner.
I do not know much about Harrison High School; but I do not think any of the public high schools in EVSC are that much different from any of the others.

My maternal family is located in and around Evansville so I seem to spend about one weekend per month in Evansville visiting them and have gotten to know the area quite well. OK, let me see what I can do to help:
Harrison High School- It is comparable with Reitz or North, solid academics and VERY strong athletic teams I'm told. If I were to move to Evansville, I'd try to send my kids to Reitz or Harrison. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Devonshire Garden- Behind Washington Square Mall, safe area- generally, reasonably priced (real estate in Evansville is not that expensive).
Village Green- Close to I 164 on Green River, very safe, farther from the Lloyd, has more of an isolated feel to it.
Kimber Green- Over by the Lloyd and Burkhardt intersection. Again a good area.
It makes me laugh when people in Evansville complain about the traffic on the Lloyd betwen I 164 and Green River Road. Traffic in Evansville always moves, even if it is congested. Rush hour in E'ville is a breeze.

Maybe moving to Evansville, New Albany or Columbia soon. Need advice.
Hi! everyone,
I may be moving to southern Indiana in October and I need some advice on the best areas to live. I would like to live in a town with a population between 30,000 and 100,000. The place where I live now has a population of about 24,000, but there is a lack of jobs here, especially decent paying jobs. I'm tired of struggling and I would like to move to an area that has positive job growth. I would like to be near some colleges too because I'm planning on going back to school and getting my bachelors degree. The other reason I want to move is that I can't get any health insurance in the state where I live. I recently found out about the HIP and Hoosiers Healthwise programs. I talked with someone with HIP and she said I would definitely qualify if I were to move to Indiana. I don't have any kids so schools aren't a problem. I would like to be fairly close to stores and other businesses though because of the price of gas. I've been doing research on some areas to live in and I've narrowed it down to Evansville, New Albany and Columbia. I saw that several areas around Indy made several "best places" lists, but I don't know if I can afford to move that far right now. Any advice would be appreciated.

Columbia? Do you mean Columbus?

Out of the 3, New Albany would have the best jobs (right across the river from Downtown Louisville). But Evansville and Columbus might be more "your size".

This is to tn Yankee, if you still need input (becuase your question was back in June) about Evansville. Harrison is good school, where my kids went and I live about 2 blocks from there. Devonshire are decent, but more rundown now than used to be,. I notice when riding my bike through there---but there are worse. Village Green, I beleive is subsidized houseing, but still not too bad I don't think. Kimber Green not familair with but the Burkhardt/LLoyd area is nice side of town. Its only couple minutes from Harrison. Good luck, not a bad city, but boring, I think.

What is the average price for a one bedroom apt., house etc. in New Albany? The most I can afford right now is $400/month. Are there any areas of town that are better than others? I would like a quiet neighborhood where I can have some privacy. Thanks!
