Smile Where would you live in Indiana, Ft Wayne area, near lakes?

Hi
I am new to the site. Simply because, my job may take me to Fort Wayne. I know nothing about Indiana and I could use some advice as to where to look for a house.

I have two small children (not yet school aged) and wouldl like to live in a family community. I am coming from the City and out like to get away from living directly in the city, I would like to live in a quiet and safe location without my neighbor's living right on top of me.

I would like to be within driving distance to Fort Wayne (25 -30 mins) tops.
I wouldlike to live near the water (if possible?).

Any information regarding the real estate tax rate would also be helpful as well.

Thanks!

Ditto Huntington. You could also live on the outskirts of Fort Wayne, in Aboite.

There are a number of outlying towns that are close to but not in Fort Wayne. Leo and Huntertown are two smaller towns minutes from Fort Wayne. They both have great school systems (Leo is the best school in East Allen and Huntertown goes through Carroll which is a great Northwest Allen School) are provide a little of the small town feel. Those are both on the north side of town but there are other options toward the south side of Fort Wayne that are closer than Huntington.

I am actually a real estate agent that works for a new home construction company that builds all over northern Indiana but the two places I mentioned above have been two of the hottest places for people to move or build for the past several years. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Some great suggestions have been mentioned. However, while Ft Wayne is not 'that' big, your 20-30 minute commute can depend quite a bit on exactly where in town you are working, and what route(s) that you may take. I'm guessing you've done a search for other threads pertaining to FtW, to help get a feel for other/nearby areas?

Best to you... safe travels, and a warm welcome to the area.

oh, as to the real estate taxes, keep in mind that this is a moving target, what w/ new happenings of late. To get a feel for this all:

Thanks so much for the help. I am still researching your suggestions and looking at real estate listings. I have to say from what I have seen real estate wise you have some beautiful homes out there!

We are still in the planning stages but I think this move is really going to benefit my family.

Thanks again!

Living in the Southwest Fort Wayne vicinity by exit 105 or 102 is my recommendation (46804 or 46814 zipcodes). The area called Aboite has a ton of nice neighborhoods with houses of every price-range. With pre-school aged children you'll appreciate all the family friendly activities that Fort Wayne has to offer (a lot, trust me you won't be bored). Living outside of Fort Wayne you really won't save too much tax-wise and you'll end up driving into Fort Wayne to work, do your shopping, and to eat out. If you have any other specific questions or would like recommendations for where to go or what to see or for someone to show you around please message me.

Default Please don't disturb the country folk

Hi, the only advise I can give is please don't move into the country and then complain about your neighbors. Example of things that happen in the country: farmers spreading manure on fields; cows bawling when their calves are weaned; tractors that run late into the night in order to plant or harvest crops; guardian dogs barking at livestock predators at night, or any time of the day (and remember, they may consider you to be a predator as well -no matter how sweet you talk to them!)

I don't mind "citybillies", as long as they don't mind me!
