Commute from Huntington to Indianapolis
I was just reading the recent thread regarding Huntington. It sounds like a great area. I, too, am now researching a possible relocation to the Fort Wayne area. It would be for my husband's job but, unfortunately, the job outlook does not look good for my career in the Fort Wayne area. Therefore, I am looking into Huntington and wondering what everyone thinks of the commute from Huntington to Indianapolis. It looks to be about 1 hour and 45 minutes, mainly expressway. I'm thinking this is not a typical commute that people make, am I correct? Do you think it's feasible?
(I'm thinking/hoping that if I were to get a job in Indianapolis, that I would only have to go into the city a few days a week, then work from home the other days.)

Not doable. I have one woman who works downtown Indy and she drives in from Anderson. Long long commute and difficult in the winter if there is blowing snow. This was before $4 gas. There are a lot of nice places to live in Indy and in Ft. Wayne. Go where the job is and live close.

What expressway? US 31? No, it's not an expressway ... you'd get on in Peru and then have to drive through slo-ko-mo .... unless you are talking about going up to Fort Wayne and catching I-69, which would mean you are going the opposite direction to go south and sweet is right ... not doable, unless you want to spend most of your day commuting and your paycheck on gas.
Not advised.

Yeah, I was looking at I-69 S. Mapquest says to take 224 E to I-69 S. I appreciate the honest feedback. I realized it would be a stretch and figured it was not something that would be reasonably feasible, but I didn't know for sure unless I asked. Just trying to figure out all my options. Thanks!

I have sometimes taken the trip from my home in Indy up north by way of Huntington. Really, the most direct way from Huntington to here would be State Road 5 south to I-69. Huntington is about 10-15 miles off I-69 down SR 5. The total trip is about an hour and 15 minutes, at least in to I-465 in Indy. I don't know where in Indy you will be heading. It's a long trip and I-69 has a lot of traffic anytime of the day, but especially between Anderson and Indy.

I think it is doable maybe on a temporary basis for a few months (especially in the summer). I mean it isn't impossible, others in really big cities travel up to 2 hours each way. if it is a really good job, do you have any really good friends or relatives in Indy, maybe you can stay a night or two a week with them, to make things easier
