Default Living outside West Lafayette - safety?

Me and my wife are moving to West Lafayette this fall from Europe. We are currently house-hunting and we found a home we really love in a remote location about 10-15 minutes from Purdue. However, being Europeans and unused to living in the US, we are very concerned about safety (you hear lots of things and you are not sure what to trust!). While we like living with no neighbors in sight, we worry that this will make us very vulnerable in case someone breaks in. Would anyone have any input on this to help us decide either way? I do understand the city is very quiet and seemingly peaceful, but should we consider living in a subdivision with neighbors just to be sure? Thanks!

You'll be safe. If you want added security, get the house fitted with a security system, or get a dog.

You might consider just renting a place close to campus first until you get a feel for the area. If you're white and plan on living in the country side you will be fine but otherwise you might want to reconsider. A great place on campus for good espresso is cafe royale on northwestern & stadium. alot of Europeans hang out there. wishing you good luck
