Jasper, Indiana info needed!
I may be taking a job with a company and working out of the Jasper, IN office. I am a 25 year old single guy and am worried I will be bored out of my mind in Jasper. Would there be anything for me to do in Jasper socially? I can't imagine they would have a young professionals club but anything like that might make it a little better. Any info would be appreciated!

You might be if you are already worried about it. You really make the best of what you have in front of you. Is the job worth it? Are you active in a Church, they would usually have social groups. Jasper is a family kind of community. I'd probably love it there. Is there a Y or a workout place? If you enjoy the great outdoors, you'll be in a great spot. Here's a list of organizations in or near Jasper ...
Jasper Indiana Clubs and Organizations
Hope that helps.

artell - Jasper is a great town. I'm originally from up north (buffalo ny area) and was used to "always something going on" - it's just getting used to the "New things to do" vs. what you are accustomed to now. Evansville is about a 40 minute drive and there is a lot to do there + you aren't too far from Louisville KY, French Lick (Casino) and Holiday World Splashin Safari Amusement Park in Santa Claus (which is where we live now). I would do some Googling --- and map out things you can look into once you are there.

My daughter(21) and I(40 something) spent some time in Jasper, about 5 days and didn't care for it. There were some really nice houses on 56 W going towards Ireland. We wanted to see what all the hype was about Jasper from what we have read on this forum, and sorry to say we don't agree. We heard the Chicken Place has the best fried chicken. That might be true, because it wasn't open yet when we got there. Actually we were shocked when we seen the building. It looked like a little(emphasis on little) bar. Also went to The Mill House restaurant for lunch, which wasn't that bad. Went to the Schnitzelbank Restaurant, which was ok. Another place we thought had more hype then it was worth. Sorry, not trying to offend anybody., but Jasper is not somewhere my daughter and I would want to live. And what is that smell when traveling into Huntingburg, it was dreadful!

ChickeyDuck - The Chicken Place (where it is now) was infact - originally a bar. Over the past few years it changed hands several times but it will always be remembered as the Welcome Inn. Jasper has undergone some changes in the past 10 years or so and while it may not have been to your liking, there are many folks who love calling it home. As for an odor heading into Huntingburg --- it's called "Farming"!

Boring, yes
To be blunt... yes you most likely will be bored. Don't let people fool you into thinking Evansville and Bloomington and Louisville are so close. It takes an hour to get to Evansville and longer to get to Louisville and Bloomington. With gas what it is, that's not a fun drive to make often.
To be fair, I'm not your age, so maybe you'd find something you enjoy here. If you are religious, there are a lot of active church communities. But if you want to meet people your age and "hang out" anywhere other than the Wal-Mart, you won't find much here.

If that wasnt FUN me and my buddies had a few weekends ago at the Schnitzelbank, I dont know what fun is! That place was fantastic!! The people of Jasper were warm, helpful and friendly. That "smell" around Huntingburg reminded me of my youth on the farm. Sure hope you dont complain while your mouth is full of food! There must be some reason every magazine that does such things rated Jasper as 1 of the top 10 small cities in America to live!

Thanks! I havent had that much fun in years. Nothin like the Beer Barrel Polka after a few beers! The only thing that surprised me was just how large Schnitzelbank was. The place was huge. We are already planning our next adventure!
