I-69 Extension project kicks off tomorrow!
thats right the ribbon cutting ceremony kicking off the start of the construction of I-69 to Evansville takes place tomorrow! at a private place. in Oakland City
what do you think of the I-69 extension project?
Personally i think it is a great idea it will save time and money on the commute to Evansville and will stimulate economic growth in the communities it will traverse.

As someone who makes frequent trips to E-ville I think it is great. I do understand the concerns by some in Bloomington who are afraid if the development the Interstate might bring to the western fringes of Bloomington; but I think the positives outweigh the negatives. It is about time the SW corner of the state gets connected to the rest of the state!

But look at how developed west 3rd street already is. If not for 37 there wouldn't be nearly as much 'stuff' out there. I'm more concerned with development in previously undeveloped areas than with a few more gas stations and motels being built around what is now 37 going by Bloomington.
I'm still not sure how much time it will save - I've heard as little as 20 minutes, but it sure seems like the 70 to 41 route would take a lot longer with traffic.

It might make me unpopular, but I would be thrilled if they just did the project from Bloomington to Indianapolis. Unfortunately that's the part that's not funded. It seems as if everytime I travel north on 37 a new stop light has cropped up. Calling 37 a highway seems silly to me with all the stop lights between Bloomington and 465.
I feel for the people that will lose farms and homes, but to not have one of the states larger cities (Evansville) and one of the two major universities (IU) connected to Indianapolis via a speedy highway has always seemed silly to me.

Don't believe that 20-minute b.s. for a second. Perhaps in optimum weather conditions, and no traffic, say 7 o'clock on a Sunday morning, and if you don't bother doing things like slowing down as you drive through small towns, or stop for red lights. Any other time, measure the difference in hours.
Ever drug through rush hour traffic on the south side of Terre Haute, or done the two-lane hiway dance with a coal truck, or those big Euclids they use at the stone quarrys? We all have, too many times.
Bloomington should reflect on the wonderful tax benefits it has seen from having the state university, and accept that southwest Indiana needs a reasonable corridor to the university and then to the capital.
And talk about difficult. Ask any of us parents how it feels to kiss our kids goodbye on a snowy Sunday afternoon as they set out on highway 57 headed back to IU or Purdue

As a native of Evansville who now lives south of Fort Wayne, I cant' wait for this road to be finished. My parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and other family members are still in the Evansville/Mt. Vernon area and I travel that way often. 41 South in Terre Haute stinks! Once you get off of I-70, trying to get through the south of Terre Haute is a nightmare. I hate it.
I wonder what kind of time frame we are looking at for this to be finished from Indy to Evansville? My parents may be dead by the time it is completed and I may be too old to make the drive by the time it is completed.
