Default US 31 between Indy and Kokomo

Greetings

I have considered commuting to IU-Kokomo from Indy to pursue a degree they don't offer at IUPUI. I have only been to Kokomo once; way back when I was 10. What is the commute like once you get north of Carmel? Anyone frequent US 31 enough to know how clear it is in the winter? The university is on the southside of Kokomo, so I don't think driving through Kokomo is going to be an issue, I just wonder how congested US 31 might be north of Carmel and how clear it would be in the snow.

I commuted to Kokomo from Fishers 4 days a week for about a year. Once you get north of SR 32 at Westfield, it's pretty smooth sailing with only a few traffic lights. The cops will generally let you get away with going about 10 miles over the speed limit, too. As for the road conditions in the weather, as with any part of Indiana is depends on the timing of the storm. A rush-hour storm is going to bring things to a crawl. Otherwise, the traffic really isn't bad.
