Hello all. I will be going to South Bend this weekend with my 12 and 14 yr old daughters and will have 2-3 hours to burn with my older while the younger has an activity. Could anyone recommend a fun museum or shopping district that myself and my "indie" 14 yr old could go do? I'm not sure we have time to check out Notre Dame, my gal loves art, music, interesting shops.

Domergirl? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Go to campus. The bookstore has lots of cool stuff and the Snite art museum is really nice, as is the Hesburgh Library. And go to the Basilica. Truly a stunning building ... God Country Notre Dame, kind of scary. The Grotto ... I don't know I could spend hours just walking around campus seeing the same old stuff I've been seeing for years and still be mesmerized by it all.

As for South Bend ... the College Football Hall of Fame can be fun. There's also a big ol' mall on Grape Road (University Park Mall), but seriously, I'd hang out at ND, but I'm not objective about that whole subject.

We recently moved to the area, and spent some time (not enough) at the Old Bag Factory in Goshen, about 20 miles or so from South Bend. Artistic Excellence at the Old Bag Factory - Goshen, Indiana It's a restored factory site that houses galleries and shops. Definitely different from the local mall, which is nothing special as malls go.
I'd second the suggestion to visit the ND campus.

Yeah, I don't want to go too far away from town center and my daughter is not a big mall person, so it sounds like Notre Dame and the Art Museum would be good. Is it really hard to park on a Saturday, or not too bad?

Depends on if it's a football game day. If it is ... well ... best wishes, just follow the crowds.
