Indiana High School Basketball
I grew up in Lafayette and went to Jefferson High School I have many fond memories of incredibly exciting...."barn burners"...basketball games, especially during the state tournament time of year. Do you have any memories of your high schools' teams or traditions?

Oh don't get me started!
I have 2 fond memories. The 1982 state basketball final between Plymouth (Scott Skiles, Phil Wendel) and Gary Roosevelt ... it's the best, sorry Milan, the BEST boy's basketball final ever played in this fine state.
And my little school's girl's basketball team, 85 in my senior class, making it to the sweet 16 my senior year, after beating the eventual state runnerup and #2 ranked team in the state during the regular season, losing in double overtime at the Fort Wayne Coliseum. Those were the 2 most exciting games I ever played.

Oh back in the days I remember our school like all the other county schools around here providing 2-3 fan buses to go to tourney games. Every away game most likely had at least one fan bus. Most kids today have other things to do than to show up and support their school teams. Even county rivalries have gone away with the inception of class basketball.
All the gyms in my county were filled to the rafters with fans. Now days who wants to drive over an hour to get to see high school ball? Ticket sales have dwindled, schools are struggling to keep all the sports teams they do have alive and parents can't shell out $40-$50 for their kids to go watch. By the time they go out to eat with classmates, gas to get there and back, ticket to see the game and maybe a pop at the game it has become unaffordable.
domergurl from what I have read the Swayzee Speedkings of the 1960's with 9 OTs in the state final was 'the' game I wish I could have been around to see!

I don't think that was a state finals game ... I'll check though.

I stand corrected thank you domergurl. Still would have been an awesome game to watch. That record of 1964 still stands today doesn't it of 9 OTs?

I attended NorthSide High school and I have great memories of basketball during the By Hey years. We always seemed to have a good team and we all loved high school basketball. I don't like the new class system, but maybe that's because I have such good memories of the "old days." Now, I follow college basketball, mainly IU, but I pull for all the Indiana teams except when they play IU.
