I am driving from the SW in March and passing through several States, including Indiana, on the way to Pennsylvania. I will be veering off some to see friends in Columbia, MS and then heading into Indiana.
I haven't been in Indiana for many years, and wonder if folks have any suggestions for things to see, do, enjoy and most importantly some recommendations for comfortable, affordable places to stay in either a hotel, motel or bed and breakfast. Many thanks for any suggestions you all may have. |

In Fremont they have Satek winery, it's pretty nice. Lot's of good wine if you like wine. They also have some outlet stores too I think it's called Fremont Outlet. In Angola, they have the Kruse Auto Gallery, and the WWII history museum those are pretty cool too. That's if you're heading through Northern Indiana.
Places to stay I really can't make any recommendations here. |

Southern Indiana, I wouldn't know anything about, central Indiana, I'd say visit Indy, because it's just a big city, and I like the big city environment! And the Circle Center mall is so cool, unless you are too happy about heights, and northern Indiana, besides the suggestions I made if you happen to go through South Bend, they have a really good chocolate company called the South Bend Chocolate Company(go figure) and Fort Wayne has Debrand Chocolates, they are more expensive than the one from South Bend, but they are oh so yummy. Sorry I couldn't recommend a place to stay, I don't know if you'll be traveling 80/90 to Pennsylvania or taking just taking normal roads through Indiana. |

Stop in Merrillville at Westfield Mall area. Lots of restaurants, some great Chicago based Pizza, Italian, Chinese etc.ones and local fare. Hotels in area too.

Thanks to all for your suggestions.
As it turns out, I had car trouble and was forced to change my route--will not make it to Indiana, but perhaps I will another time. |
