Arrow Possible relocation to Evansville, part II

Thanks for the comments, between here, and the info on Kiplinger's, I'm getting a better feel for the area. One of the responders mentioned the summer was humid. That seems to be a relative term. I'm right on the VA/NC border, so that's more humid that Utah, but less than LA. If anyone could supply a reference point.

Do folks there get hit for city taxes if they aren't in the incorporated areas of the city?

I know there's a lot of barge traffic on the river, but are there any repair facilities, or companies that deal in water transportation located in the area?

I'm sure as the time draws near, I can get the name of a good RE agent who isn't clueless. ( There are SOOO many out there in tidewater).

Thanks again for the info....

I do not know where you are along the VA/NC border, but I will use Danville, VA as a reference point for comparison. On average, it looks like in the heat of the summer, Evansville may be slightly more humid (maybe one or two percentage points more). I would guess that more the most part, looking at the data city-data provides, you may not be able to tell much of a difference. But you might; Indianapolis is on average 3-5 percentage points less humid than Evansville, and my mother swears she can tell that it is less humid in Indy. I don't know.

For the purpose of income taxes, every county has an income tax, you can't escape it. If you live in Darmstadt and work in Evansville, you still get the Vanderburgh County tax. This link has last year's tax rates by county:

I know that there are companies located along the river, but I don't know what they do. Sorry. I was too busy sitting on the riverfront watching the barges drift by.

I'm a landlubber, but I asked a friend who speds a lot of time on the river, and here's his reply:

East Side Marine and Lloyd’s Marine handle repairs on pleasure boats and light commercial vessels. So does Lynns West Side Marine. Barges are repaired and even built by JeffBoat, in Jeffersonville. There are other barge repair facilities along the river – one, I believe, is in Cairo Illinois but I am not sure of the specifics on the others.
