Default Map of Columbus, Indiana Flood Area

Have really enjoyed reading all the posts. Am excited to have the goal of moving to Indiana after some family friends who are making the leap this week. Won't be really soon. Alot of work to sell house in Orange County, California.

After seeing the flood back there, I have been trying to find a "good" map of the flooded area so we know where not to look. The FEMA map doesn't print well. We will be looking for rural property around Columbus. A couple acres with a house. Would like to have some space and trees around me before I die instead of traffic and smog. So, something in the hills a bit. Anyway that's what I'm dreaming of.

Best thing to do is let us know what properties you are looking at. If the property is anywhere near Haw Creek, stay away. The Driftwood and Flatrock Rivers flooded heavily, but it was Haw Creek, which technically wasn't in a floodplain. The other rivers are clearly marked in the floodplain. As for the flood in general .. you have to keep in mind that it rained steadily for almost 24 straight hours, which is rare.

I'm in Columbus, our neighborhood didn't flood.

RachelKnott,
You may be able to find out this information by going to Bartholomew County Home
click on GIS and create login info and see if this will tell you where the flooding areas are. I think you have to click on the icon off to the left side of screen. You have to remember these areas that flooded do not normally flood...it was a freak thing with all the rain that we had over a 24 hour period.

I hope this helps,
JulieL

Thanks for the advice, just wouldn't want to buy a house that had been flooded.
