Fort Wayne - Are there a lot of stay at home moms?
We may be relocating to FW and I'm looking for ways to connect with other moms with preschoolers. Are there a lot of SAHM's there, or moms groups, clubs? How about the subdivisions with clubhouses - do they offer kids' activities like playgroups, holiday parties, etc?

SAHMs in Ft Wayne
Hi Tink,
I think that Fort Wayne is a great place to raise a family, and there are lots of neighborhoods with active associations, especially in the Aboite Township area that might have more SAHMs. I used to live in the area. They have lots of parks, city swimming pools, community activities where you would be able to hook up with others. I live in Elkhart now, but if you have any questions about certain areas, write to me, I will be happy to help you!

Also, the libraries have programs every week and one of the malls (Jefferson Pointe) has a play date every week. My kids are older, but I would think that Science Central probably has something for parents and kids too. Many subdivisions have newsletters or ways to meet the neighbors. Several neighborhoods have clubhouses too.
Fort Wayne is a very family friendly area. We sometimes get knocked for not having the excitement of the larger cities, but I haven't heard too many people complain about our city not being family friendly. If your children are school age, you can get as involved as you like in the school, which is another great way to meet other moms.

I'm from Chicago, but lI have cousins there and love Fort Wayne! If you have a little girl, you will quickly become familiar with Matilda Jane clothes.

Fort Wayne has a lot going for it and indeed there are a lot of stay at home moms in this vicinity. You'll find that there are several MOPS groups (Mothers of Preschoolers - a national organization) with very healthy and active memberships. Through many of the churches there's other stay-at-home mom groups as well. I own a family-oriented business in town and we cater to all these groups. You won't have a hard time connecting up with other moms for sure. Message me if you need help getting started.
