Is Mitch your man?
With all the focus on the presidential election, it seems people have forgotten about the race for governor!
Is Mitch your man or do you support Jill Long Thompson? Or neither...

I think this would be an excellent poll question. Do you want me to make one??

I'd be surprised if people in NWI even knew who Mitch Daniels was.
But to answer the question, it would be a resounding "no". Mitch is way too "big business" oriented to care about the citizens of this state.

Nita, what are you doing trolling the NW Indiana forum?? I thought NWA was your turf!!
You have to understand Indiana politics to understand that comment. NW Indiana is seen by many as a unique region of the state with more ties to Chicagoland than the rest of the state. Lake County in particular has typically been run by a Democratic machine. Mitch is an Indy guy and a Republican.
For the record, Mitch is my man. Some might find it confusing, on the other hand, that I'll likely be pulling the lever for Obama as well.

Now please, I'm begging you, go easy on the mod. Can we keep it civil? I know, I'm talking to myself on that too I'll keep this open until November 5th, or until it just gets gnarly where I need to declare mod-law.
capiche?
Let the games begin, but nicely.
Thank you.
Here's the wiki for the race, just tryin' to keep ya's informed:

Until Jill gives me a reason she is a candidate with a plan rather than someone who will mudsling just to win the election, Mitch is my man. I like many of the things Mitch has done, and he is the only republican I am currently in support of. I get the feeling that Jill is just trying to point at Mitch's shortcomings to win an election rather than presenting a her own plan. Ok, all that aside, I like the property tax cap (though I am not a homeowner yet, so I am only guessing it is good, though they should possibly could have changed the accessing system first), and I like that Mitch wants to cut the fat of our government. I don't really care that the toll road was leased (sorry northern Indiana), and I do like the money being brought in for road improvements. I like what he wants to do with the education system, and I like that he has always been an issue first politician rather than a straight up politico.
I am registered democrat and vote democrat by default more often than not, but I like Mitch, and I have moreso been un-impressed by Jill.

Sadly that is the thinking of many people not just Hoosiers, if it doesn't directly affect me I don't care about it. Somewhere some how down the road it affects all of us no matter if it is in po dunk corners IN!

Now my man Mitch is ponying up the funds missed from the toll road being closed due to a natural disaster! Gains and losses should come from the company that bought the tollroad not a "welfare/entitlement account" set up if you do business in Indiana people.
Quote:
Jane Jankowski, a spokeswoman for Gov. Mitch Daniels, said Friday that the state will reimburse Macquarie-Cintra - a Spanish and Australian consortium - for its lost revenue. She said she doesn't know how much it will cost the state to make good on the lost tolls.
Jankowski said the funds will come from the $3.8 billion the state received from the foreign consortium for the 75-year lease agreement to operate and profit from the toll road.

Sorry DC 38 that toll road you don't care about being sold is now hitting a pocket near your body, more coming soon.
I don't care for either choice they both of flaws; Thompson is more attacking than stating her platform plus she has a long history of good ole boys ties to our capitol I don't trust that. Mitch I don't think he cares about the working class in our state like he campaigned on the first time. I don't like him trotting all over in the tax payer's jet either even from his vacation home in another state.
We are facing tough times no matter who gets elected in the state or nation they inherit a lot of messes.

It should be noted that the state is re-embursing the private company because INDOT (presumably) asked them to wave tolls to allieviate traffic due to the closure of 80/94. Sure, the company could have been more helpful, but I think that the state re-imbursing them for taking away their revenue stream is reasonable. It should be noted that travel is down this year due in part to high gas prices, and the private company is not bringing in the revenue it had hoped from the lease. We, the taxpayer, are not on the hook for that loss of revenue. I lost the link, I will try to dig it up later; and I may have exhausted my knowledge and interest on the issue.
