Default Columbus, IN

Hello Everyone!

We may be in a position soon to move and have been looking at the Columbus, IN posts and it is sounding very appealing to us!

Can you please tell me what would be the nearest major airport to Columbus and how far of a drive it is?

Also, I was reading about Forest Park (Park Forest?) and how it seems to have really good reviews, especially for families (we have 2 children under the age of 5). However, I am a little confused....is Forest Park an actual city or just what the locals call the area? If it is the latter, what cities should I be looking at and do I really need to be concerned about floods?? Would insurance (flood) be high there?

As far as crime....the nearby major cities.....are they safe to go to for day trips with the kids and how far of a drive is it?

How much snow do you usually get each year and is it difficult to drive in? I have always lived in the south, so it would be an adjustment for me, although I think it would be nice to have a winter.

Also, are there any Catholic churches in the area? Private schools?

Thanks!!!

The nearest airports (yes, plural) are Indianapolis and/or Cincinnati. We are in between both. Indy is about an hour away, Cincy is about 1.5 hours.

Park Forest is a neighborhood, home of your humble mod. So, of course I'm going to be biased.

Catholic Church .. St. Bartholomew. There's also Holy Trinity in Edinburgh.

Private schools ... St. B's, Columbus Christian, ABC Stewart Montessori, St. Peter's Lutheran, North Star Montessori .. there's one private high school at columbus christian. Most private schools stop either in 6th or 8th grade.

Snow ... coming from Chicago, this place is a joke, snow-wise. We had a major blizzard, a foot of snow, and the snow was gone in 2 days. The ice is what you need to be careful of here.

Crime ... I don't feel like I need to be on my guard here. Indianapolis is spotty, but I've never really felt unsafe there. Not quite sure what else to say abou that.

Feel free to pm me is you like.

mswmiz77,

There is also a big airport in Louisville...about 70 mile from Columbus. There are alot of nice day trips. Brown County in Nashville Indiana is a nice place. Greenwood, Some parts of Indy, Cincy, and Louisville are all nice areas to take day trips. It all depends on what you like to do.

Like Domergurl said, there is not alot of snow here but when it does snow it is gone in a few days.

Good Luck on your findings

Julie L
