What to do in Fort Wayne?

Listen to WLDE 101.7 f.m. they are always giving you a list of things that you can do. Fort Wayne really has a lot to offer.

Have been in this area for total of ~6 years now, and will agree that FtW itself and the surrounding region is not too bad. Granted, I much prefer hills and hollers and clear running streams tumbling down mountains [and caves ] over this relative tundra - but, between the various local restaurants, the bike trails, the beautiful scenery [autumn and spring are very nice here], the wild snows, the Komets, the undulating rolls of the lands thanks to the glaciers, the concerts, Chain o' Lakes and other state and city parks [Fox Island, etc.], Black Pine Animal Park, the many numerous festivals, etc. FtW itself is good - and Ronzou listed many very fine places. Also recommend the whatzup.com - good resource.

I would not consider NE Indiana a tundra Northern Wisconsin is far more tundra like when the winter is actually cold. -20F is a fairly normal low temperature in January in areas north of Rhinelander.

lol,,, ummm, did ya see where (a) being a hillbilly, I mentioned I'm a mountain-lovin' fella, and that (b) used the term "relative" to describe the term tundra? When the wind blows, the snow piles, and I can see for miles from horizon to horizon, yea, to my Ozarkian eyes, 'tis durn spite near a tundra.

Fort Wayne is definitely family-friendly (and some might say even family-focused) and as newcomers without one I can understand why you're asking about things to do... if you're unfamiliar with this town you can miss lots of cool things to do if you don't have kids... in no particular order here are a few off the top of my head:

1) Snickerz comedy bar - great comedians visit weekly, a nice date-night event
2) Embassy Theatre & The Allen Country War Memorial Coliseum - plenty of shows, sporting events
3) Coventry Theatre - very cheap movie theatre (but it's relatively new) - 1.50 per ticket. There's also the RAVE movie theatre at Jefferson Point
4) Jefferson Pointe AND Glenbrook Square (the two malls in this vicinity - each very large with lots of shopping)
5) Excellent restaurant choices (see another thread already started on this - there's well over 50 restaurants in Ft Wayne's vicinity which have terrific food - many of them locally owned)
6) Piere's Nightclub & billiards - truly a nightclub to visit... huge... music for everyone and a foam room! Note: there are also several pool halls all around Fort Wayne as well.
7) CrazyPinz Entertainment Center - not just a bowling alley (putt putt, games, etc)... but if you just want to go bowling there's about 5 other alleys around town - Georgetown Bowl is the nicest regularly center...
8) The Fort Wayne Art Museum, and about a dozen other museums all around Fort Wayne.
9) There's festivals happening all summer - you can get the schedule via the visitors bureau (and via the newspaper as the nice weather approaches). Fort Wayne is serious about its festivals... they are pretty cool.
10) The Dome (golf, putt put, and entertainment center)
11) Parks are everywhere around Fort Wayne and several are really nice to picnic at.
12) Ice skating at McMillan or Rollerskating at the Roller Dome
13) Plenty of nearby glacier lakes such as the Lake James chain of lakes with boat and cabin rentals available. Taking a drive out north or out west will bring you to some very large lakes for fun water activity, camping, hiking, or just relaxation.

There's probably a bunch more I could write about but I need to get back to work *smirk* - good luck and have fun :-)

Pierre's is still there??? OMG!!! I used to go there when I was a fresh 21 year old ... almost 20 years ago!!! Do they still have gals dancing on pedestals???

And don't forget, the Rollerdome was listed as a potential terrorist target.

LOL - yes Pierre's is still here! My wife and I went with some friends when we first moved here - what a surprise, we never expected to see a place like that in Fort Wayne. It is truly huge, seems a major attraction for people of all ages. Honestly we haven't been back as now we have young children and I guess we value our sleep so much now we don't stay up partying at nightclubs. Now staying up all night to play our new Nintendo Wii... well that's a different story... (just got it yesterday) - awesome game system and well worth a little saturday morning post-playing exhaustion!

Regarding the Rollerdome - that's funny as heck. I wish I could find the Daily Show story on it that must have been hilarious. I still find it amazing that Indiana had more potential terrorist targets than any other state (according to a Dept of Homeland Security report)... I would have expected NY or CA or DC instead.

Well, I have lived in Fort Wayne before..& all you can do is..Eat,sleep,sh!&,go to wal-mart,and basicly wait to die.
