Default Columbus Indiana Real Estate Rentals/Single Family Rentals?

This seems to be the only 'piece' of our relocation puzzle still missing. I'm keeping an eye on the Republic, and checking the two area realtor sites that have a 'rentals' icon/listing button on a daily basis and did some extensive driving around while we were in Columbus on the 3rd & 4th of this month. And all I have been 2 houses and some trailers available in Candlelight Village. The former went rather quickly, and the latter I'm concerned about after some DMs I got here and advice from an IRL friend in Bloomington who lived in Columbus a couple years ago while working at Ivy Tech.

So I'm curious if the single family rental market in Columbus is always as tight as it seems right now? With credit ratings barely into the 600's purchasing doesn't seem to be an option for us {though I did fall in absolute lust with a couple of houses on one of the realtors sale listings} So I'm getting a bit nervous about the availablitly of rental property in Columbus, especially one that would be okay with our family of 3 adults 3 children, a canine companion and a cat that hardly ever leaves the foot of my bed unless forced by the call of nature or kibble.

Is this something directly related to the flood? Hubby thinks it might be a matter of families renting while their primary residence is rehabbed, and that the market will open up more as those families return to their homes. I'm none to sure about that, especially since Regional is fully re-opened and I'm sure their re-habbing project was much more involved than a residental recovery.

Any thoughts, ideas or links to other sources for rentals would be greatly appreciated.

I think the single family home rental market is always tight in Columbus because most people who move here, purchase all the single family homes that are available. Rental homes are usually done privately and to family or friends who are in need.

Did you ever call that company that I sent you information on????

The flood recovery is winding down ... people are moving in or have moved on. I don't think the rental market was truly affected by the flood. It's always been tight.

I could be wrong.

Hubby contacted them I believe. I know he made several phone calls out of the notes I gave him, which include everything on here both on the boards and DM. He made even more copious notes, but as of yet I can.not.find.his.notebook. and I keep getting distracted when we're on IM and forget to ask.

I have gotten a couple other leads today as well, both on here and my blog, and I'll be following up on those in the a.m. Two of them said buying may still be possible, including one from one of the moms in my CARE group, so I'm anxious to see if that's really possible.
