Pendleton is 20 minutes form Indy and a nice small town. We don't like there sports teams (we are rivals) but I really like the town and how the school keeps school spirit with the community during Homecoming, etc.

Try Lapel!
Lapel still has the small town charm, but big city access, being within 30 minutes of the NE corner of Indpls. The town is growing, but the citizens and the town council are taking it slow. They want insure that the town's infrastructure will be able to handle the growth without having to raise taxes.
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce has repeatedly listed the school as one of the "Best Buy" schools and in 2005 they listed it as one of the state's six "Head of the class" schools. A new building for the high school is to open Jan 2008. Up to this point grades K-12 have been in one building. The boy's basketball team won 2005 state championship. The boy's baseball team won 2006 regional. The marching band ranked in the sweet sixteen at 2006 State Fair. Residents of the town fully support the school and think nothing of the fire truck leading a caravan with full sirens when there's been a major victory such as the ones mentioned earlier. Nor do they think it odd for the full length of Main Street between SR-32 & SR-13 to sport large paw prints, seeing that the Lapel mascot is a bulldog.
The town has two parks, a 9-hole golf course, several small restaurants plus a Pizza King and a Subway, a bed-n-breakfast, a grocery, a Dollar General and a library, which is a branch of the highly acclaimed Anderson Public Library. Refer to the data on city-data.com for more information.
But don't take my word for how great Lapel is, come visit!

Lady Librarian ... I used to be a librarian myself!
I have to agree with you about Lapel. I drove through there a month ago (had to be out of the house because somebody wanted to look at ours in Fishers). I was very impressed! It's tiny, but it's so close to Indianapolis and it's burb amenities.

Noblesville is a nice area, but the traffic can be difficult. We have lived in a number of spots around Indianapolis, and liked the Greenfield area alot. East of Indianapolis about 25 minutes from downtown off of I-70 freeway. Excellent schools and a population of about 12,000.
Home prices are around 120-180k with some areas significantly higher.
One nice thing to note about living on the east side is if you work in Indianapolis the sun is not in your eyes when driving back and forth to work (dayshift of course).

wow first thing ive seen about Greenfield, Bilros. I lived in Greenfield for 99 % of my life. Moved about 2 years ago. Heard it was booming now a days. Cant wait to come back next summer and see how its changed. All my family lives there and all they talk about is what new resturant or shopping place has gone in.
Greenfield was a small little town when i lived there.. , but right before i moved is when Indy started coming in. i really hope it hasnt turned into Indy.. i loved the small little town feel it had. corn corn corn!!! lol

Small Towns
As you can see, there's several small towns around the Indianapolis area. So much of it depends on how far you want to commute to work, how much you want to spend for housing and what's your limit on property taxes? Do you know where you will be working? If you would like more info, just email me, I'd be glad to help.

Noblesville
Not if you are looking for that small town feel..... You might look at Pendleton or Fortville... They are not quite the Burbs yet, but not that far of a commute into Indy.

Could try Zionsville, where I now live. It's a small, semi-closed off town. There's country on about three sides of it, but the southern side leads into Marion country (where Indiapolis is located). Not a lot of big-name shops or businesses, malls, movie theaters, or restaurants (but all of that is very close by in surrounding towns) and it's like that for a reason. Zionsville is an antique town, with a brick main street and old-fashioned shops. Very rustic in that sense. However it's pricey. Good schools and good place to raise a family (I grew up here).
