Paoli, IN?
Can anyone tell me anything about Paoli (I already know about the skiing). We are looking for a small town in a scenic, hilly area with affordable housing.
Please don't suggest Brown County instead, I have no health insurance options there. I have health insurance in Bedford, Paoli, Salem, Brownstown, Washington, Vernon, Versailles, Greensburg, and Connersville, as well as some larger cities which we are not considering.

I have not visited Paoli, simply drove through it on IN 37, and I'm telling you it's as scenic as Indiana gets; the downtown looks so quaint and scenic, it's unbelievable. It's also more affordable than Brown County because all the farm and forest junkies that have jobs in Bloomington can commute from there (Brown County).

You may have already made your visit/decision, but I just happened to come across this post and thought I would leave a message. I grew up in Paoli and lived there pretty much until I was around 22. I have been gone about 4 years, but the family is still there so I get to visit. I would love to live there again though. I know pretty much anything you would want or need to know about the area so please let me know what specific questions you have. As for the general aspects, the schools in Paoli are very good and there are a lot of improvements/additions being made. The area is incredibly scenic with miles upon miles of hils and unending forests, particularly to the south and west which is land belonging to the Hoosier Nat'l Forest. Land is extremely affordable. Although incredibly rural, Paoli is only 45 minutes outside of downtown Louisville, roughly 2 hours to downtown Indy, and about 45 minutes-1 hour from Bloomington depending on what part of town you want to get to. Again, please let me know if you have any specific questions and I would be glad to help answer them.

Yes, we visited this month, and yes, we have decided Paoli is where we want to be It is beautiful and the air is fresh, lots of song birds, too.
I would like to talk to you more once I get rid of this cold so I can think! We talked to a few people while we were there. We felt like everyone was very welcoming. Please keep in touch!

Absolutely. Drink some orange juice, get to feeling better, and ask away. I'm very proud of my home town and am always glad to help people find the hidden gems of the area. Talk to you soon.
