Default Bloomfield Indiana

So, is anyone here from Bloomfield or familiar with this town? We have a potential job offer there, would just like to hear some of the pros and cons of living there, it looks like quite a samll town, what's it like for a family? Thanks!

I know someone who lived there. She lives north of Indianapolis now but said she really enjoyed living in Bloomfield. I don't have answers for your other questions, though.

I lived in Bloomfield in the late '80's/early 90's and it was a great place for famlies to live. People were very friendly and neighborly, there was very little crime to speak of and everybody knew everybody. It's pure Mayberry.

The negatives to me, after moving there from a large town was that you had to drive to Bloomington or Terre Haute to do "real" shopping. Job opportunities in Bloomfield are pretty limited since there are few employers in town. Most people who live there do so because they work at Crane, or some folks work in Bloomington but find housing more affordable in Bloomfield.

I was raised in Bloomfield and have returned to raise my family. Yes, you have to go to Bloomington, Greenwood, or Terre Haute for Major shopping. Bloomfield does have a Pamida(a small Wal-Mart like store), Dollar store, IGA, Ace Hardware there is a Wal-Mart in Linton 10 miles away. There are several restaurants, Pizza, Mexican, Italian, American, and a Subway coming soon. There is a nice park with 2 basketball courts, a swimming pool, the Shawnee Summer theater has turned out a few stars and is in its 50th year. There are softball and baseball leagues for kids in the summer. Bloomington is only a 30 minute drive away and has tons of other things to do. The rent is a little high in my opinion but there are several homes for sale. It is easy to walk or ride bikes in town to most everything. There are several Clubs and community service efforts one could join. Most everyone is friendly; of course there are always those exceptions. I can offer lots more info if you would like. Hope this helps. Oh- Bloomfield School was just voted one of Indiana’s best buys, it has turned out its fair share of Doctors, Lawyers, Comic Strip writers, and other professionals of all kinds. The rural setting is beautiful rolling hills.
