This is pretty silly. If you all have an issue take it up with Yac or Makablue or whatever that guy's name is. Otherwise, let's just try to stay on topic.

Thanks DC ...
Relo, I'm going to give you the name of a neighborhood which will knock your socks off and your family will love. It's called the Villages of West Clay. I'm not being a smart*** either when I say that. It's a honest to god recommendation that you really need to investigate. You will be very happy there.
Am I right Sanjose?

Villages of West Clay look a little like new urbanism and "planned". I was hoping for an established area like some towns found in Westchester County, NY, Norfolk County, MA, or Fairfield County, CT. I will explore it more though. Thanks for the earnest suggestion.

Ok ... Meridian Kessler or Williams Creek areas of Indianapolis then, and send your kids to Park Tudor, the Orchard or Sycamore Schools and then Brebeuf for High school. Seriously, I'm tryin' here. Most of the burb developments are planned out. Zionsville has a beautiful downtown arts & crafts/older rehabbed homes. Also, Zionsville has a fantastic school system that's nationally ranked. It's just off I-65 too, so it would be a straight shot to Columbus ... a little over an hour.
Your initial delivery, relo, was antagonistic to begin with and I overreacted, there, mea culpa.

while i know a lot of people like vowc - i'm not sure i like it (especially the prices). if we did buy in vowc, i would probably buy on the other side of 131 where it seems more like a traditional neighborhood.
fyi, we finally relocated to the indy area from san jose. moved here 3 wks ago and renting a house in carmel. we were going to buy but decided to wait another 6-12 mo's and take our time getting to know the different areas and neighborhoods.
so far we're really happy (originally from indiana). carmel isn't at stuffy as i feared it might be.
<mod edit, get over me, if you feel that any of MY posts are innappropriate or off topic, there are a couple ways you can deal with them:
1. report them ... use that little triangle
2 lodge a complaint with Yac or Markablue
otherwise just stop>

Sanjose, renting is a great idea to get a feel for the place. I like just jumping in and have never regretted it until this move. Maybe that would be a good idea for the next move. The tax benefit of owning would be lost but it might be a smart move.
Domergurl, thanks for the new suggestions too. I really do not think I was initially antagonistic but I know you feel very strongly about Columbus and I am so happy that this discussion has turned out to be helpful and supportive.
I will explore all of those ideas. I am a public school fan but maybe I should rethink it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Zionsville, for sure then. Newsweek did a survey of the top public schools in the country, here's the list <mod cut> And as I look over your OP, yes, you were very belittling to Columbus in your third paragraph. A lot of the bad blood could have been averted had you just stuck to your message minus the third paragraph.

I was asking for help and felt that the decision about the commute was not driven purely by the commute but I was seeking specific things in a different community. I stated facts and in addition was merely stating my experience and my feelings. In order to find a place I might like I expressed what I did not like and how I felt about Columbus. I know it was not positive but it was how I felt. It is unfortunate you took my experience as a personal affront. Before you throw stones you should take a good look at your posts and tone. You have called me (not my town or "in general") but me personally.... elitist, high maintenance, "go ahead" move and make the huge drive, just to name a few.
I appreciate your apology and think the new tone to the thread is much more productive.
I had not really considered Zionsville but that is a good suggestion. I will look into it as a possibility too. Thanks

For the record, I think (like it matters what I think ) the whole thread is a gross over-reaction by everyone. Folks, if you want to lodge a complaint, send a direct message to Yac or Markablue. They can still see the stuff that is deleted from us normal people's view. This squabbling IS off-topic, and IMO should be deleted.
Onward we march, let it snow baby, let it reindeer!

And on that note, let's back up and punt.
If someone wants to start a new thread and explore some of these issues, have at it. Unfortunately this one is done (and has been).
