Brief Overview of Madison
Madison is a small town in Southern Indiana of about 13,000 people and off of the Ohio river between Cincinnati and Louisville (if some havent noticed.) Madison at one point was the biggest city in Indiana back in the early 1800's and had about 13,000 people and hasnt grown sense. Madison has Rottary world headquarters and I haven't heard of such an industry untill I moved here in late june. Madison has a few other industries but no big ones in particular. Madison has a very diverse style of housing, ranging from 1800 town houses to modern suburban style homes, but a majority of them in the downtown area look like this:
Madison has such rich history but it's not growing. I think it is time for Madison to grow and I believe that a lot of others think that too. It has the potential to grow, with it's highway system and the Ohio river right by and the decent commutes to Cincinnati and Louisville. Madison is a quiet town though and a lot of people haven't heard of it or haven't been there because an interstate highway doesn't run through it.
I would like to see Madison grow and become a regional center. Anybody else?

Vision-Quest,
My family is originally from Madison (cousins, aunts/uncles, grandma still live in Madison) but my mom and dad moved here (Columbus) when my dad got hired on at Cummins. There were a lot of people that moved from Madison to Columbus because of Cummins. It would be nice if Madison had more to offer in the way of big job producers but do not take away from the historic area that it is.

I'm sure there are many people who live in Madison who would like for it to retain the charm it currently has.

Yeah Madison does need more jobs. I have heard of a lot of families that have fell in love with Madison and the residential options but they had to move away because they couldn't find a job. If Madison could just bring in some more jobs within a decent commute then the city would have it's opportunity. It has great edjucation with good schools and Hanover College right by, but after you graduate from there, there is no where to work. If a place like Cummins could put a new plant in Madison than that would help out a lot, but I don't know the financial state of Cummins right now. There is a lot of factories on US 42 on the Kentucky side past Carrolton but that is about 30-45 minutes away.
Like I said though, Madison has the potential, the city just needs more places to work. A new entertainment center downtown might not be bad aswell.

Ohhhh I love Madison!
Cool old houses, Clifty Falls hiking, a setting on the river to die for!
We head down at least 2-3X per year to race bicycles, hike up to the falls or gawk at the Christmas tour.
I have a few bike race pics on my flickr page here:

Lucky you; you get to live there!

When we lived in Hayden we used to drive over to Madison from time to time just to walk by the river, I especially liked doing that in the winter for some strange reason. I have many photos of Madison. Did you go to the Regatta?

I haven't been to the Regatta yet but I would love to go next year. In the summer I love riding my road bike around the area, but it's real tough going up some of those hills!
