Move to Indiana,need advice!
My husband is possibley getting transfered and has his choice of Indiana or Missouri. We live in Arizona and have never been to that part of the country. His job requires weekly commuting to other states by plane, so we need to be somewhat close to the airport in Indianapolis ( or St. Louis ). Neither of us want to live in the city. We would like to find a nice suburb to raise our kids with low crime, good schools, shopping and parks. Of course all the things most people want. We also wouldn't mind even going a little more rural, Just as long as I have access to civilization and shopping, hopefully a GYM too. Comming from the desert I would love to find a place that has lots of trees and rivers or lakes. Does a place like this exist out there? Also what is the climate like? I heard the summers have unbareble humidity with high heat and the winters are freezing cold. I'm used to heat comming from AZ with summers averging 115 degrees, but there is no humidity. And our winters are in the mild 60's. Right now we have been in the low to mid 80's, and it's the first week in march. OK, enough bragging about our awsome winter wheather. I'm scared of cold ! eeek!! Anywho...If you could please recomend some places to live I would appreciate it so much. If it helps our price range for a home is from about 250- 325K. And any other bits of lovely info reguarding your state would be wonderful. I love the outdoors and am looking forward to exploring , hiking and camping. Thanks!!!!!

Indiana
Hi, I'm from Bloominton, IN. There are plenty of trees, lakes, a beautiful grass called Kentucky Blue grass and lots of natural wonders. You'll love Indiana!! Winter's not as bad as you'd imagine -- just dress in layers, wear sunglasses after it snows and the sun comes out because it can be blinding, carry an umbrella because we get plenty of rain. Missouri is a lot like Indiana, but not as cold. I hope you find some stuff you guys like in Indiana!!

I will tell you this, if you hate humidity, St. Louis can be HORRIBLE compared to Indiana. I can't explain it, but I've been to St. Louis during July and August and I thought I was going to die sweating and I've been a lifelong resident of Indiana (save for a decade in Chicago).
burbs to check out:
Fishers
Carmel
Zionsville
Greenwood
Avon/Plainfied (close to the airport)
Noblesville
Fishers and Lawrence Twp (northeast side of Indy), has Geist Reservoir and the west side has Eagle Creek reservoir. There's another reservoir in Noblesville.
Top schools are in Fishers, Carmel, Zionsville and Center Grove (south Greenwood).
You can peruse other threads here. These places are chatted about a lot. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a nice home in your price range (look for posts by Spartanacus, his house is for sale in your pricerange). Check it out:

Their schools are hit or miss (according to my friends who live in Lawrence). They have a magnet school system, which is starting to backfire because other public schools are losing enrollment as a result. There are two feeder high schools, Lawrence North & Lawrence Central. I know they have a spanish immersion magnet, as well as a science and technology magnet. It's all too confusing for me to understand. Fishers schools are easier to deal with. All are good, no matter where you live.

don't forget about Plainfield schools, I believe Plainfield and Zionsville was the only two that have been 4 star schools for several years in a row...

I would lean toward Plainfield. It's a clean and new suburb close to the airport. Avon isn't bad either, but the roads in and out are pretty poor (busy with many stoplights).
Indiana is known as being flat fields, but starting about 20 minutes south of Indy the landscape changes in a big way with more hills streams, etc.

St Louis Area
Greetings,
St Louis has the same stores as in the INDYarea. Try the Barnhart area south of St. Louis. It is rural and very nice people are there. I have never ran into INDY or St Louis area of rude people.
The housing and food prices are the same..
I cant help you in the school area, except my friends live in Arnold and that is a really nice place and I have never heard any complaints of the schools there.
God will direct you
