I'm moving to Madison too---
In June 07, I'm moving to Madison from Indianapolis. My fiancee has been working down there for a year and we are finanlly making the move.
We found our house on Yahoo Real Estate and the house went up for auction and we got it for a great price.

Did you get the links that i sent to you about Lynch Reality in Madison? Andy Lynch is who we used and they have A LOT of homes for sale in a large range of prices.
I'm moving to Cherry Trace, which is right off of Michigan Road...but i don't think that there are any homes for sale there. Now, i know that behind the golf course, there's an older addition and there are homes for sale in there that are nice.
Good luck

i was born and raised in madison, in. didn't move until i was in my 30's and my husband and i are now going back to the area. the schools in the madison/hanover area are good, the jobs are there if you look for them, housing for sale and rental are there also, the best thing to do for rentals is check the madison courier or contact a local realestate agent, there is plenty there. the town in for the most part very quiet, a 15 minute comute to hanover maybe and hour to columbus, cross the river into kentucky, nice malls for shopping, lawrencburg for gambleing. nice all the way around

It sounds like you're already in Madison/Hanover, but I thought I'd add my thoughts for others who might view this. Downtown Madison is drastically different from the neighborhoods on the hill, in either Madison or Hanover. Most of the hill houses feel like your typical suburban subdivision houses, whereas downtown offers houses that are over a hundred years old on flowering tree lined streets. As someone who lived downtown for over ten years, I can't speak highly enough of living there or at least going down there often. You can take a walk to a local restaurant, walk down to the river, walk over to the second run movie theater, and stroll the beautiful streets. If you don't live downtown, don't let it go unnoticed. Many people native to Madison rarely go downtown and miss out on so much that it has to offer.
The downtown is where the festivals and events happen. Chataqua in the fall (arts and crafts festival), winter tours of homes, garden tours, regatta, ribberfest, and even the Main Street Programs' Music in the Park during the summer all happen downtown. Sure most of the normal conveniences, aside from a mall and a Target are available on the hill, but don't forget to take a closer look at the downtown businesses, stores, and restaurants. The people downtown are wonderful and enthusiastic. They somewhat divide into two groups. There's a poorer community downtown--mostly on west third street, and then there's a large educated, mostly transplant community, who are very interested in historic preservation and the community life of Madison (not that others are not). If you want to know anything else about Madison, particularly downtown or the schools, just ask.

I'm loving it!
Thank you all for your replies. We moved into Madison at the end of last month and so far we love it. One thing we haven't gotten used to is having to drive everywhere-lol- but I am sure that we will. It is a beautiful community and everyone has been really, really welcoming. Hubby hasn't found a job yet- but he hasn't really been searching hard as he has been setting up the house for us as I started work the day after we arrived and have been going full steam ahead. Once we get settled- he will start his search.
We are living "on the hill", but just love the downtown as well. Once we get a free weekend or two- we will be exploring it more fully.
To any and all of you who are from Madison- thank you- for making us feel so welcome!

Hey there!
Well, we were supposed to move into our new house in Madison about a month ago, but the remodeling, well hasn't gone as fast as it should have. We added about 500 square feet and have been remodeling the inside since March.
Finally, in about 2 weeks, we should be in. Our house is on Cherry Trace, up on the hill, off of Michigan Road. We are so excited about finally getting down to Madison....i know that my fiancee is excited. He's been working down there for over a year now and driving back and forth from Indy.
So, if ya see an orange xterra driving around in Madison....that's me!

Yay!
You must be SO excited. We are up on the hill as well- closer to the State Park. It is so lovely here. You should be getting here just in time for the Regatta. Are you going to go?

We are thinking of moving to Madison next year and wonder if we would fit in. We are a "two mom" lesbian couple with two adopted Asian children. We are pretty conventional, professional people who want to live in a small river town as opposed to congested and expensive Connecticut where we now live.
