Looking for safe area in commuting distance of Louisville, KY (New Albany: for sale, rent)

Scottsburg (Scott County) is right on the Interstate, 29 miles north of the Ohio River....easy commute, schools not bad, nice YMCA facility. Cheap Broadband Wireless Internet is available county wide, which none of the surrounding counties can offer. Check out www.c3bb.com for details. Check the tax rate for this county, vs Clark, Floyd, Harrison. I lived 7 miles east of Scottsburg for 10 years.

Hello all. This is a helpful thread. Floyds co. has been mentioned, can someone suggest a nice area to live in Floyds co.

Also, how is the Borden, IN area? Schools- good/bad or somewhere in the middle.

Jeffersonville has a scarey rep. Lots of student teachers avoid it. Floyd County schools are awesome if you can afford to live there. New Albany HS is peaceful and has nice new facilities. Both systems have good special ed programs. I HATED Sellersburg- a small minded place, but if you're looking for an all white area, it might be up your alley...

Louisville is not a safe place anymore. Schools in certain areas are good, depends where and I'm not sure on any of them personally. I do know southern indiana.

Floyd central-one of the best schools in the area but another thing you should note is that everyone always says the students are snobby and that normal classes are harder. kids do have a hard time fitting in there sometimes, whether they are poor, rich, have learning problems, smart as a tack, etc. they have basic education classes or did years back when the kids went there. they have many special education programs and emotionally handicapped classes which seem to work out for people with learning problems. i had a boy in the emotionally handicapped class and he did well (years ago). Mount taber which is located in new albany did offer special education years back.

corydon-would probably be an easier school to get general education from but less special education, which means it would be easy for an average student to pass but a person who needs tutors, ect it would be harder. floyd central really pushes their students to learn more.

I do not know anything about New Albany High School but never heard anything bad about it. I agree with whoever said to avoid jeffersonville, that place is terrible. also hazelwood high school, not sure if it runs anymore but it was bad in my time.

Interesting, so Louisville is dangerous and the schools are bad but you can't name any? Come across the bridge more, neighbor! Believe it or not, you are a suburban Louisvillian if you live in S. Indiana. You have the advantage of living in a nice small town with the amenities of a major city minutes away!

Louisville is one of the safest large cities in America, and it has the three best high schools in the region BY FAR (Manual, Ballard, and Eastern) plus private high schools like KCD, Collegiate, St Xavier, Trinity, Assumption, and Sacred Heart, which are unparralleled in S Indiana. Louisville also has some of the worst schools in the region. But...these schools can be avoided. As most major cities go, the schools run the full spectrum from poor to outstanding. Floyd Central, Providence, New Albany, and Jeff, are average high schools, comprable to the middle tier of schools in Louisville like Male and Waggener.

I lived in New Albany and Floyd Knobs most of my life ( only outsiders say Floyd's Knobs). Much of the population in Floyd Knobs is due to white flight. When Louisville started busing several years ago, wealthy white people literally headed for the hills so their kids wouldn't have to attend school with minorities. The schools are still overwhelmingly white, and minorities aren't exactly welcome. There's a quiet, but strong Klan presence in the area too. New Albany is more diverse, and could actually be a charming little city, if the slumlords were forced to clean up once in a while.

New Albany could be your best bet. Just over the river from Louisville, you can be in KY in about 7 minutes, but the elementary school, Grantline is 5 star. It is amazing. we also loved the middle school and high school. We just relocated to AL and the New Albany schools are a year or more ahead in education. We actually have a beautiful home for lease or purchase in one of the safest neighborhoods I know. It is 3 minutes from the elementary school, we are on a very kid friendly cul-de-sac. The home is 2400 sq feet with the basement it is 3200. Would you like more info on New Albany or our home?

THIS IS BULL****. Why is Waggener, in the heart of white St Matthews, HALF BLACK????

I have been here two weeks, and had to pull my kid from Waggener, because a thug terrorized him at school. WHY did this happen to my baby boy???? He is NOT THE SAME, and I am so angry.

I dont blame the white flighters, and regret moving to this town. I am too scared to leave my house anymore, so is my son.

Where is Christopher 2x to defend my baby boy? Or is it OK for our children to be terrorized by bussed in blacks at school?

tater you don't sound like you want your child around black people at all.
As far as your issue, have you filed for a hardship transfer? Try getting your son into traditional school.
