Snowboarder moving to Fort Wayne
Hi,
I'm relocating to Fort Wayne, and I'm wondering what is the closest/best ski resort to call home? I've only found two resorts in Indiana which are a lot further away than some places in Michigan.
so...for all you skiers and snowboarders living in Fort Wayne (or all of Indiana I suppose), where do you all go and how often? I'm planning on making a trip every weekend.
Thanks

It would probably all depend on what you are used to. Where are you relocating from? Indiana can't compare to places that actually have real mountains to ski on, and as far as real snow...well, if you aren't here in the next couple of weeks, you will probably miss it for the year! (Sorry - I hail from places that actually have snow and mountains, and if you are truly an avid snowboarder, Indiana is going to be a big disappointment!). You are going to need a lot of gas money if you plan on making a trip every weekend - because there isn't anyplace for true skiing/snowboarding within a day's drive!

Where do you all go to get your minimal dose of the snow around where you live?

It's hit or miss, here. More hit right now than miss in NW Indiana! Most of the time, the northern part of the state gets a bit of snow in the winter, but for actual snowboarding, most head to WI or MI for a weekend.

Are there organized day/weekend trips to nearby resorts, in which a bunch of people take a van or bus down to ski or snowboard? (Preferably in Fort Wayne)

Perfect North Slopes - Ski and Snowboard
Just heard about this place ... it's a haul from Fort Wayne though. There are a lot of resorts in Michigan.

There are a few places in SW Michigan that should be about 90 minutes away, but they're pretty tame - maybe 250 feet of elevation change, tops. But they've put in half pipes and that kind of thing, so you might get a fix there.

Boyne Mountain in northern Michigan has a nice ski/snowboard facility but it's about 300 miles north of Ft. Wayne.
Ft. Wayne has a ski club that organizes trips to resorts in the surrounding area and in other states. Their site is here: We Do It In The Snow And Much More There is an application fee to join.
Otherwise, you might want to ask at stores around the area that cater to skiers/snowboarders (Ski Pole and Camp'n Ski Haus are two) or check out any nearby universities for ski clubs.
