Where to find property tax for specific address?
I have done a search and also looked at the Indiana Facts sticky up top, but can not find what I need. Hoping someone here can help?
My family is looking to relocate to south-central IN, and one of the things I am interested in is the specific amount of property tax paid on some properties we find interesting. Where I live now, I can go right to the assessor's site and enter the address, and receive the amount paid. I am not finding that for IN. Am I just looking in the wrong place?
I have found the tax rates, and that is all good, it gives me an idea, but I would really like to know what exactly was paid the previous year. While I realize the taxes will be much less than what I am paying here in a far western Chicago suburb, knowing exactly what the property tax is will narrow our search even more. And yes, I do over-analyze everything!
There was a site I found that someone else had listed, can't remember the name but it was some realtor guy's site, and the post said that this site had the property tax listed, but I did not find the taxes paid there.
If it helps, we are looking in the Bedford/Bloomington and Columbus, IN areas, but it would be helpful to have info for the areas around there, too. Thanks!

In Indiana tax bills are sent by the county treasurer, not the assessor. So, I would start by looking at the respective county treasurer's website. The availability of information varies from county to county.

Bartholomew County (Columbus, Hope area) has their tax information available via the web. You need a sign in ... if you give me the addy via a dm, I can look it up and let you know, or you can go to:

Ah, I have been looking for an assessor, not treasurer. Ok, I will try that route.
Domergurl, that is a great link! I was wondering where the flood plains were, and with all the information on that link, I was able to find that!
There is a particular property we are really curious about, I will send you the information in a moment. Thank you for offering!

The tax data is administered by the individual counties. There are some plans to try to create a statewide parcel layer, but that is still in the future.
You may find information of interest on this site www.indianamap.org . The statewide map contains over 200 layers of map data. One of my personal favorites is the Big Tree 2005 layer.
There are links to local maps as well

Hi, to get property tax info for Bartholomew County (Columbus) use the GIS link domer provided. You will need to register to access the tax information. On the GIS map page, enter the address in the find parcel bar (house number and street name only-do not include st., ave., lane, etc.). On the right hand side, under tasks for parcels, click on view detailed property information. When that page is displayed there is a taxes link on the left. You should be able to get the property tax information you need by clicking on that link.
There is also a view property record card under tasks for parcels that will give you information about the property such as sq. footage, lot size and, if the property has sold in the past 7 years or so, the price paid.
One other note, the flood plains shown on the GIS are not accurate. I would check with the county surveyor if you are considering a property that is shown to be in the flood zone on the GIS. We ran into this problem when we were purchasing our property.
Hope this helps, best of luck.

dreaming---Lawrence County does not have tax info available online. (Bedford)
Monroe County's information is on the ASSESOR's site. There is also a GIS site available via the Monroe County Gov. site with tax information. Google Monroe County Indiana gov. to find the sites. I don't have them bookmarked on this computer.

rrah - isn't the tax information supposed to be public record? Is that only true in IL? I know I could call a realtor and find the information, but I don't want to bother someone when we have nothing concrete. Perhaps if I find a place that really grabs me, I could always call the county assessor's (tax) office.
I will say, I do now have a great idea of the taxes in other areas thanks to all of the information provided. Shocking how inexpensive. I know it probably doesn't seem like that to those that live in IN, but coming from IL, I love your tax rates!

You are correct. The tax info is public record. Lawrence County just doesn't have a website. You could call the county assessor's office.
When we moved here from IL our property taxes were cut in half! I'm always appreciative of how low our taxes are.
