Hi all,

I'm driving cross country in May, from New York to San Francisco. Is there anything interesting along I-80/I-90 in Indiana that I should stop and check out?
I don't know anything about that part of Indiana, and it'd be a shame to drive right past something really interesting, whether it be natural, cultural, local or historical. I wouldn't mind going off the highway a little ways, considering its worth it.

Thanks!

The College Football Hall of Fame is just off the toll road in South Bend. Also, the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is on the way as well.

1. University of Notre Dame in South Bend. Truly a beautiful campus.
2. Climb Mount Baldy just outside Michigan City (big sand dune along Lake Michigan). It helps most of us realize just how out of shape we are.

As you first enter the state from the East, there is Pokagon State Park - very hiking trails and the such there... nice to get out and stretch legs if so inclined:
DNR: Pokagon and/or Pokagon State Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Another vote for Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore - go there a couple times every year. Sunsets are gorgeous btw... esp. watching it set towards Chicago in the distance.

South Bend, w/ the famed Notre Dame campus, is also worth a couple hours touring since in the area: South Bend / Mishawaka
Nearby Mishawauka has a few interesting bits to see also, such as: City of Mishawaka, Indiana - Shiojiri Park (http://www.mishawakacity.com/ShiojiriPark.asp - broken link) and City of Mishawaka, Indiana - Beutter Park (http://www.mishawakacity.com/BeutterPark.asp - broken link)
and the Bonnie Doon Drive-Ins are somewhat of a legend in the region too.
