John Rommel (school, university, best)

I am considering sending my son to the music program at Indiana University. He plays the trumpet. Does anyone know about Mr. Rommel and his trumpet program?

IU-Jacobs School of Music is one of the most respected music institutions in the world. They don't hire slouches. Students come from all over the world to study here. I suspect Rommel is as about as good as it gets.

I don't know if you have already made your decision, I am a former Indiana University student. I cannot think of any place better to attend school. Mr. Rommel is on of the best teachers in this country and is a fantastic player. I can see absolutely no negative reasons not to attend Indiana. I went throught the program and am now playing trumpet in a professional orchestra. The facilities are top notch, the faculty is world class and the college enviorment is peaceful. I assume your son is an undergraduate, for a new student this is an absolutely great place.

I was a French horn major at Vanderbilt when Mr. Rommel was in residence there, and he is a fabulous musician and teacher. Those are often difficult to find together, trust me (I have studied with musicians from the best orchestras down to local teachers without acclaim, and frankly the latter were typically better except for teachings on specialty/niche areas). You have probably already made your decision, but for posterity and anyone searching city-data going forward, I highly recommend Mr. Rommel for anyone considering serious music study.
