Thumbs up O’Rears Pastry Shop in Lafayette

Hi folks. I grew up in Lafayette and remember very fondly, the wonderful treats at O’Rears Pastry Shop. I seem to remember there being one at the Jefferson Square Shopping Center across from the Fairgrounds. Does anyone have information about this?

How far back was it when O'Rear's had a store in Jefferson Square? I remember them on North 9th Street near St Boniface when the Tonne family owned and operated it.

The only remaining O'Rears (and it's been the only one in town since I moved here in 1994) is located on N. 9th Street. I believe they are under new ownership, as of 3-4 years ago.

Missing the Midwest is on a distinguished road
O'Rears did indeed have a shop in Jefferson Square back in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It was down at the south end of the shopping center. I remember walking over there to buy a brownie after summer school Health class at the newly-opened Jefferson High School, so that probably would have been 1970. The last time I was in Lafayette (October 2006), the main shop on North 9th Street was still open, and the brownies were just as great as they were in 1970.

I thought there was a large supermarket such as Kroger in the south end of the Jefferson Square shopping center. That pretty much occupied the whole south end.

There was a Kroger's there. I remember a drugstore also. One of my neighbors was the pharmacist. I grew up near S. 9th & Teal Rd, then moved to the Tecumseh subdivision, so this shopping center was the one my family used. Anyone remember the Frisch's Big Boy? Oh, how I loved their special sauce on their burgers and their summertime strawberry pie! Yum!

Plantlover, Yes I remember Frisch's Big Boy at Jefferson Square. I believe that spot is now occupied by Wendy's.
