Camping?
Hi,
We're looking for a good place to camp (in a tent) somewhere near I65, between Columbus and Louisville. We'll have our dog with us, so we need a place that's dog-friendly and hopefully not too terribly busy or crowded. I checked out the state park/recreation areas near there (Starve Hollow, Hardy Lake, Deam Lake) but they all require a minimum 2-night stay on a weekend (we'll be staying in Indiana on a Saturday night) and we'll only be passing through for one night. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I'd suggest trying Muscatatuck Park in North Vernon. There is a beautiful National Wildlife Refuge just off 65 near Seymour called Muscatatuck that doesn't have camping, but they recommended the part to us when we were there last week. (We had stayed in Clifty Falls park down in Madison). I haven't stayed there myself, but it did get a good local recommendation.
Good luck. (OH, here's a link: http://www.muscatatuckpark.com/)

There are some privately owned campgrounds on IN46 about ten miles west of I-65. Do a search for campgrounds in Nashville or Gnaw Bone IN.

Thanks guys... we ended up at a place in Americus, near Lafayette. (Didn't make it as far as we meant to that first night, obviously! ) It was a nice place but there was an infantry group there, over 200 guys, very loud late into the night. It was a pretty place, though, a river there and nice grassy sites.

I'm not sure where it is in reference to I-65 but lincoln state park, up near santa clause, indiana is nice. they allow dogs, theres no minimum nights requirement, and they have a lake where you can fish swim or rent paddle boats, and a nice trail. The trail takes you to this big tower, i think it's like a fire watchout tower or somethin like that, the climb up it is high but the view is gorgeous.

I once stayed at Pla-Mor Campground up on US-6 just outside of Bremen, IN. Very nice place. I plan on going back some day.

Was that a bad thing? The only problem I had there was that I was only allowed to ride my motorcycle to my campsite and out of the park. They didn't want me riding it around the campground. Other than that, we had a blast.
