I am going to be moving to Bloomington in June. I've been doing a little apartment hunting and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I'm seriously considering Adams Village. I have a dog and need a pet friendly place. I'm going to be doing a residency at the Optometry Clinic at IU. I'd like to stay away from the college undergrad/party apartments. I'm looking to spend less than $800 and want a washer and dryer in the apartment. Suggestions and personal experiences are much appreciated!

I"m not familiar with Adams Village, but the location should be well away from the undergrad/party apartments. I generally know by location which apartments are overrun by undergrads, but rarely know them by name.

Try Sassafrass Hill on the south end....it's pet friendly with no breed restriction and also has a bark park for your pup to run around without a leash. This place is a 2 bedroom townhome 1 1/2 bath. I just everything upgraded last summer (both bathrooms and kitchen completely upgraded with all new appliances) plus my dog and it only costs $655. If the townhome is not upgraded, it will cost less of course. Bloomington Transit, the local bus system runs close to the apartment, a short walk away...the walk kind of stinks in the winter, but it will drop you off right in front of the Optometry School... it runs every 20 minutes and is free since the cost is included in tuition. Washer/dryers are not in the apartment but we do have a small laundry room. It's a small complex that has mostly grad students (quite a few from IU-Optometry school) and small families. It's very quiet...i really like it here so you might want to check it out!

Does anyone else have any info about this poster's question? I'm in a similar situation, looking to do some professional rotations for school. Although most will be done in Indy, I'd like to do some in Bloomington since I would eventually like to move to that area when all is said and done. I thought about commuting from Indy to Bloomington for a few months and then abandoned that idea.

I'm looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in Bloomington that isn't full of undergrad students. I would like to spend under $800/month, have a washer/dryer hookup in the unit, and would need to have a 3 or 4 month lease. I'll be coming from Ohio State so I won't necessarily be connected with IU while I'm there. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Shamrock Pointe is new, has some very nice apartments and is far enough away from IU to not be overrun with students. With each unit, you also get a separate, climate controlled storage unit, w/d hookups and they are pet friendly. I don't know about short term leasing, but you can call and ask. You may want to check the classifieds in the Bloomington paper (registration is required, not sure about fees) or here: idsnews.com | Indiana Daily Student |

Subleasing is most likely going to be your best option for a short term lease without getting gouged on rent.
