as I understand it the name originated with a big bang on someone's cabin door and the owner yelled out "Whooossee der?" that was converted to Hoosier.

A few years back, the IU alumni association asked their alumni to write a concise definition of what a Hoosier is. This is what I submitted:

I won a copy of Hoosiers for that concise answer. And I was living in Chicago at the time.

A Hooshier is basically anyone who lives in Indiana.
