Default Evansville advice?

Hi, We are looking at buying a house in Evansville and wanted to know what residents think of the town? We are currently in Germany but will be pcsing soon and I don't want to go back to the desert. I've gotten used to green again..haha Can anybody give me insights as to areas to be, areas to avoid, good schools, what the crime is like? Any advice would be so appreciated.. Thanks so much.
Teri

Hi antiquegyrl, I have lived in Evansville all my life and know the city pretty well. Evansville is growing by leaps and bounds. I can think of nice area's and also maybe not so nice area's all over town. Have you ever been to Evansville? I am just curious how you chose Evansville to move to. Maybe you would want to rent first for a while to better acquaint yourself with the city.. Is commute time to work important? A little more information would help in order to try to point you in the right direction.

As far as crime is concerned, I would say that Evansville is probably average for a city of it's size.

Here is a link that may help you with stats in general.

hey,
i lived in evansville for my whole life as well... it is a nice town.. pretty quiet.. they have an awesome festival in oct. u will love it.. as far as the best place to live.. i personally like the west side.. out by USI and the north side is great too.. Cynthina height elem. is a 4 star school .. helfrich park M.s is good and reitz.. i would say steer clear of Bosse HS district.. not bad , but there is better.

I lived in Vincennes (now Chicago) and I've been to Evansville quite a bit. Evansville is growing very quickly and people are very, very nice there. The weather is typical midwest and, from what i hear, the school systems are above average for the most part. The city has a small airport which is good for going to cities like Chicago, Indy, Atlanta, Dallas, etc. directly or for transfers. Evansville is what Terre Haute and Vincennes should have been.

Crime is just about average. The locals have hoosier hospitality to a fault so don't worry about unfriendliness. It's a great place to raise a family as well though not so good for yuppies. Best of luck with ur decision!

Evansville is a nice, friendly city. I've never had a problem with crime; I think it's pretty average for a city of its size. As for school districts, I'd avoid Bosse. I think Reitz is a good, leading high school. Both of my cousins went to Central and thought it was okay. There are a lot of nice areas in Evansville, specifically on the outskirts. My aunt lives in McCutchenville, just a couple miles outside of Evansville, and it's a very nice, suburbian-style area.
