OK I have sat back not really saying much on this topic but here goes. I am sorry for the little boy that died and his family also all that are sick with it all over.
This is a smoke screen for something bigger our government has it's paws on folks. Other countries have shut down their borders but not the USA. The child that died was first sick and treated in Mexico then brought to Texas for treatment. The news makes it sound like the USA had the first natural born citizen contract it then die. While we all should take precautions there are over 36,000 people that die from flu types sicknesses every year why no outcry about it? This will hurt the pork farmers in the USA badly for unfair news reporting. As if the USA economy isn't bad enough already.
What flipped me over the edge knowing this is getting out of control is when Wabash, IN closed it's schools today. Not because a child had a confirmed case of H1N1 but because the child had flu symptoms. Hysteria will run through communities before common sense does. State health officials told them they didn't have to close their schools! But the local school official knew they "had to" because they are smarter than folks that went to medical school or what I don't know.
Please just wash your hands, have your kids wash their hands as soon as they get home from school, bang elbows or fists instead of shaking hands, wash fresh fruits and veggies well before eating. Turn off the TV and stop reading every post about it as though it is coming from an educated person in the know, including mine. If you are a real freak about all this stay home for about 7 days.
By all means share info just do it to info not invoke fear please. Thanks everybody.
uggabugga I saw that picture before all this mess started and thought what parent let's their child lick a pig? It is a funny picture though.
Let's just all keep cool, calm, level-headed and wise taking appropriate steps not to get infected. Probably one smart thing to do would be to stop eating at fast food places and also restaurants until this situation shakes out better.
Even schools over here in the UK are being closed due to swine flu that has come over from Mexico via holidaymakers. There aren't many reported cases, just a handful, but people are panicking already. Put into perspective, the number of cases against the number of citizens, it does appear the media are whipping up the frenzy. They showed a UK teenager in the news yesterday absolutely distraught because a fellow pupil had been diagnosed with it, she was terrified.
We are all being fed the 'catch it, bin it, kill it' message, sensible advice, and everyone is preaching about hand washing.
Holidays to Mexico are being cancelled and alternatives given and there is some concern about travelling to the US.
If it's going to happen it will happen though, can't see how it can really be avoided, I mean, just think if someone with it sneezes and goes shopping and handles fruit, veg etc, and there are many people who will.
I for one am not going to worry about it, still waiting for the bird flu to happen and that was ages ago.

I think that is a great attitude.
Practice good hygiene, stay away from sick people, and carry on I say.
That's pretty much what I do during "flu season" anyway.
I also make it a point to do at least 30+ min of vigorous exercise per day, especially if I feel a bit "under the weather". The human body wants to fight off disease. Help it do it's thing.
why worry. It's always something. The population is to large, there must be something to scare, control, destroy population. Review back in time it's always something. So if you wash your hands after every contact with someone or something, no worries?.. Have they tought about the food industry? What if someone infected cough on my food? Gees.. Never go through life with fear...
