Hi, thanks for your recommendation. I replied your private message also. If you did not got my reply, please tell me for my internet was something wrong.
Generally, if I go to VU by Amtrak, which is the nearest amtrak station? If I take the flight to VU, is it only Evansville the nearest airport? Any other airport suggestions? Or any other public transport is best to go to Vincennes.
Thanks

I didn't get your private message.
Amtrak does not serve Vincennes. Closest Amtrak station is in Indianapolis or Effingham, Illinois. Both roughly 2 hours from Vincennes. Evansville or Terre Haute both have commercial air-service and both are within an hours drive. Public transportation in Vincennes is basically non-existent. I would check with VU itself about any transportation they might offer in the way of airport shuttles and how they arrange for international students. There is a taxi service in Vincennes, but I have never used it so I can't tell you anything about costs. Once you arrive on campus however, most everything you would need is within walking distance.

There is no commercial air service from Terre Haute, either. The best way to get to Vincennes would be to arrive at Evansville, and then perhaps take a rather expensive taxi ride to VU from there, or if you can rent a car, it might be cheaper to fly to Indianapolis or Louisville and drive.
You might call the university at 800-742-9198 and ask them if there is a way to arrange a campus visit, and perhaps have someone volunteer to pick you up at the airport. I would hope they would help you with that!

Glad dodeca chimed in. I didn't realize that Terre Haute no longer had air service. I know I flew a flight out of Terre Haute once (thinking Delta Connection) but it's been years. When did Terre Haute stope commercial traffic?

It has been several years, maybe since 1999? I remember flying in there in the late 1990s from Chicago, but that was the only time. The city is working hard to reestablish air service through Delta to Cincinnati, but I have not heard confirmation yet. There are several airlines into Evansville, which will probably mean it is cheaper to fly there. Also, VU will arrange to transport students visiting campus from Evansville, which is about a 45 minute car ride to VU.

Evansville's air carriers are (or at least were...it has been about 4 years since I've flown thru) U.S. Air, Northwest Airlink, Delta Connection, American Airlines Link (commuter) and United Connection. I don't even think they do jet service there anymore either. At least not large jets that need the skyway's. Truly a shame that SW Indiana and SE Illinois are having such difficulties. I even flew out of Lawrenceville/Vincennes (Georgefield, not VU's airport in Westport) once when they had regular commuter flights to St. Louis back in the 80's. But for some reason that never continued either......

I think that change may have had something to do with deregulation of the airline industry. Terre Haute's air service was supported for many years by federal subsidies that kept air service to smaller cities. Terre Haute's population could still qualify it for the subsidies, but because of annexation, Terre Haute's Hulman Field is now too close to the Indianapolis airport to qualify. Vincennes is probably too close to Evansville, or either too small to qualify. It would be really great if these small cities - especially Bloomington, Columbus, Lafayette could get service again.
