Default Greencastle & surrounding area???

I am interviewing for a job in Greencastle this Friday & would like to know more about the area. Specifically, where are the best areas to live in or around Greencastle? Schools are a major factor as my Son will be starting 3rd grade in the fall & my Daughter will be starting Kindergarten next year.

Anyone that can offer some help and/or first-hand experience? Thanks!

-Steve

Steve, I went to college in Greencastle (DePauw Univ.) and graduated in 93. Things around there don't seem to change much, so here's my 2 cents. I think you may be best living in either of the two close college towns (Greencastle itself or Crawfordsville, an easy 30 minute drive) or if you want a farther drive, a western suburb of Indy. I don't know where you're coming from so I don't know what is "normal" for you. In Greencastle, there are some nice areas just off the west end of the campus - a lot of the profs live there with their families. (It's a small, geographically compact school, so you won't have a lot of the ruckus close in to campus.) Hope that helps! Mimi

Steve, I grew up in Brazil, which is about 20 minutes from Greencastle. It is a small town, and a friendly town. The area is beautiful, depending where you are from. Indianapolis is about 40 miles east, and Terre Haute is about 30 miles west. I have an 11 year old daughter, and for the midwest, there's no place I'd rather raise my child. There are lots of things to see in the area; there are the covered bridges in putnam, clay, and parke counties. (Greencastle is in putnam county), the covered bridge festivals in the fall, Raccoon Lake is a good state park to go to in the summer, you can go to access indiana web site and request a magazine for info on the area. The best and most exciting place I can tell you about is the Exotic Feline Rescue Center, in Center Point, IN, 10 miles south of Brazil. It is a rescue center for Exotic Felines, there are 197 cats, lions, tigers, leopards, a white tiger, bobcats, lynxs, caracal, servals. It is better than any zoo you've ever been to, and it is one of the safest places, and you get within 3 feet of the cats! Kids love it! I worked there for 2 years, and it is by far one of the coolest places in the world. Anyway, good luck, and welcome to the area if you decide to move in the area!
Sandy

Greencastle iss a real quiet town. They don't have much for entertainment and all. All they really have is a small movie theatre with only 2 movies showing at a time, the park and pool, and bowling alley. Not many places ot shop really either. The only really good place is walmart. They got a few other stores.

but the schools are good for your kids at that age. But as they get older and get into the middle school and high school ... if the play sports expect them to not be first string or sometime not even at the team at all they pick favorites.

but it is very safe around here. I live right outside of greencastle. Good luck!
