Exactly. There are places in other parts of the country that are like literal badlands. I've lived in Gary in my youth, and still have family there, and while it's in poor shape, there are worse places on Earth, I assure you.

Yep. I grew up in Illinois and that state has it's share of Gary-type places---and that's outside of the Chicago Machine. Still doesn't take away from the state.

I love Indiana because of it's tasty Wineries, friendly small towns with local stores, and decent roads.

I dislike Indiana because it's flat, windy, and the Wabash smells like a sewer.

Indiana has a lot of positives, and there's definitely more here than just corn! I'll be leaving Indiana tomorrow for the south, and while i'm not sad about my move, the south is warm in more ways than one, i will miss Indiana.

I like: the weather in the summer (I am from and live in Texas but I visit IN a few times a year), the quaint towns, the quaint country, farms that look like they're from post cards

Indiana isnt entirely flat in the north you have some smalls hills but it is mainly flat. Once you get south of US 40 you have lots and lots of hills. The Wabash I can agree on that to some degree.

Indiana will miss you to

Thing about Indiana is you get what you put into it. We don't have Mountains or a coast line so people don't think it's a cool place. The great thing about Indiana is that we don't care. We love it here and we don't care if other people think our state is flat or boring. The people are honest and genuinely friendly. And we don't have an ego problem like Texas. There's plenty of fun things to do, it's just not as obvious as places that have mountains or a coast. I always thought that we have great State Parks and I love going to a basketball game where people care and are into the game. And It's cheap to live hear so you afford to visit "cooler" places.

I from SW Indiana and the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival in Evansville is a great example of what Indiana is about. It doesn't have corporate sponsors or a cover charge. Instead the booths are run by local high school groups and church groups as a way to raise money. It's not flashy and there's not much to do besides eat, ride cheesy carnival rides and people watch, but 150,000 people show up every year to help support their community.

The only thing I like about Indiana is the easy gun laws, the Indianapolis 500, the Brickyard 400, The Colts, IU Basketball, the loose co-eds at Indiana University, and Interstate 65 South that takes me right on out of this craphole.

The rest of it sucks.

And I sure don't want to see another Toyota Prius with an Obama '08 sticker on it. That screams WUSS.

Likes:
-Cheap living

Dislikes:
-Majority of the people
-The weather
-Humidity
-No good hiking. A 3 mile trail is not real hiking.
-No mountains
-No alcohol on Sunday...but cigarettes, guns and bullets are ok? Come on, get real.
-Tornados
-Bugs, proof that if there is a god he used Mosquitoes as a cruel prank to ruin the tiny little stretch of "Summer" we have. If not the bugs, the humidity. Lose lose situation.
-Lack of entertainment for the most part
-Conservatism
-The weather
-Lack of Ma & Pop food joints. Take over by Applebees and all those places has killed the independent vibe we once had years ago when I was a kid.
-Too many churches
-It's the 2nd "show me" state as people here don't believe anything no matter how much proof you have of something.
-The weather
-Employers here are allowed to do what they want, no workers rights at all.
-The politics
-The weather
-The drivers. Hey people, green means GO! Not sit and accelerate along side the snails. GO!!!!
-And last but not least, the weather.

I'm sure there's more. I tried optimism for the first 20 years, didn't work here in Indiana.
I'm in the South Bend area (North tip of Indiana) so I can not speak of other parts of IN, but I have noticed it's all really about the same.
