Asian family moving to Evansville?
I am considering a new job in Evansville and was trying to get a sense on the diversity of Evansville. My wife is Chinese and my two sons are more Asian looking than not. I assume there's not much diversity in terms of people, food, groceries, but are the people there more or less accepting of other cultures? We are moving from Madison, WI where there is also a lack of diversity, but not once did we feel uncomfortable or feel any racism towards my family. People are friendly and pretty much leave us alone, not like we try not to attract attention. I am just looking for a peaceful place where I don't have to worry about racism towards my family. Or getting dirty looks about a white guy with a Chinese wife.
From my search, looks like the East side is the place to be in terms of safety, shopping, etc. I'm willing to pay more for peace of mind.
Secondly, any decent Asian groceries/restaurants in Evansville? Thanks for any help!

Marcus, you, your wife and children shouldn't have any problems fitting in and being accepted in Evansville. I think the city and surrounding area is welcoming of any and all cultures. There is actually quite a bit of diversity, especially on the East side and in Newburgh. Don't know if you've looked there or not, but it's really a suburb of E-ville.
I am a RE agent, and if you want I can check out the options, as far as food/groceries. There are several areas you can live in and be a part of a great diversity within neighborhoods and subdivisions. As far as rasicsm, unfortunately, it's a part of every city/town, but I can honestly say Evansville is growing in it's comformity and understanding that all cultures being a part of our area is what makes us such a great place to live and raise our children.
Anyway, I'd be happy to answer more questions for you. I don't get on here but maybe once a day, though. You can send me a direct message, or wait for more people to answer you. There are many on here willing to help out.
Best of luck, and here's hoping you choose Evansville for you and your family!

When you say Asian grocery, do you mean Korean, Thai, Chinese, or Japanese; cause we have all of those as well as an Indian grocery as well.
Plenty of restaurants as well, that serve Asian food, personally Nagasaki is my fav, but I love sushi as well as their Teppan grill, lol.
Honestly, look at Warrick Co (specifically, Newburgh or Paradise area), since Warrick Co schools are MUCH better than EVSC; unless of course you are planning on enrolling your kiddos in private or charter schools. You might even want to look at Henderson, KY (right across the river, I live here, but work in Evansville, it's 20 mins or so drive), decent schools, and cheaper mortgages.
