Think what you will, but Indiana is not on the map with friendliest cities. You may encounter some nice folks, but all around we never get into the top 25. People here don't tend to go above and beyond to be nice.

Indiana is one of those hidden jewels that the people that come up with this stuff don't dig deep and spend enough time to figure out. They just do a little investigation( enough to get by) and then throw the works of others' on top to make it seem like they come up with this on their own.

I could't agree with you more! I had lived in Fort Wayne for two and half years. Most the people in Fort Wayne are the snobbiest and standofish and rude people I had ever met! Unless you have family that lives in Fort Wayne don't bother moving there.

If you really wanted to buy a house in Fort Wayne. Now is the time to buy!
The weather sucks totally! Fort Wayne has the worst noise ordinace law in the country!!!!!

How so? Are you saying it's too restrictive or that they let anything go?

Fort Wayne doesn't have it's "own" weather system. If you don't like the weather in Fort Wayne, you won't like the weather in Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis and many, many other cities.

I agree, it's a great time to buy a house in Fort Wayne. Many beautiful homes in great neighborhoods are available for low prices. The current real estate trends are bad acrossed the country, but Fort Wayne has always had a good reputation for affordable homes.

I'm not sure what you're saying about the noise ordinance. Honestly, since I've never complained about someone's noise, or had someone issue a complaint about my noise, I'm not well versed on that subject.

I disagree with you saying that people are rude, snobbish, and standoffish in Fort Wayne. Just as in every other city in the world, you will find individuals who are rude, snobbish and standoffish in Fort Wayne too. However, if I was always running into people who seemed rude and standoffish, I guess I would have to start looking in the mirror and wonder if maybe the problem was ME instead of the entire city.

I don't know why you think this. I am from Ft. Wayne and now live in Carmel, IN. I think people from Fort Wayne are extremely nice. I think your theory is flawed. I also go to Chicago and Michigan. And they don't seem any snobbier.

Ok - this "survey" is TOTALLY - can't emphasize enough - TOTALLY flawed!!!!!!!!!!
Lived in Miami for 15 years - am from NY - lived in CO, AZ been to tons of other places...
Miami is DEFINITELY in the TOP 5 RUDEST people on earth.
The fact that it is ANYWHERE on a list of friendly - even top 100 - or 1000!!! - tells me right there that that survey is TOTALLY bogus/skewed/what have you!
So people - ignore that list. Please!
I mean, MIAMI????????????????????????????????????????

In my personal experience (I'm speaking for myself), I don't think I've ever experienced outright rudeness, but I did have a really hard time making connections when we lived in Fishers. I made a lot of connections in Carmel and in the 2 years that we've not lived in Fishers, the people I keep in touch with and visit, and get visits from, on a regular basis are the friends I met from Carmel and Castleton. I also had a hard time making connections when we lived in Valpo. We lived there at the beginning of the century and there seemed to be an air of the town not liking all the new people moving in at such a rapid pace (I hope that's changed because Valpo is a great place). Now here in Columbus, I have to say this is the most downright friendly place I've ever lived in this state. From the get go, I was made to feel welcomed, my kids made friends immediately ... so I don't know. There for awhile I was beginning to think I had BO or something.

I think that Indiana is what you make of it ... much like the rest of the midwest. If you approach people with an attitude, you'll get the same in return. Kind of a midwest thing.

I can't speak for the snootiness of Fort Wayne per se. I think that Fort Wayne is one of those places where families live for generations, therefore, social groups and families are well established and if people aren't outright friendly, they probably aren't doing it out of snootiness. It's because they already have a set group of friends and are comfortable with their circles.

I'll say that the most unfriendly people I've encountered are in Boston (again, that MY personal experience). I guage friendliness with willingness to help someone who is lost. In Boston .. man, that's one hard city to figure out .. I was treated like an idiot for not knowing where to go. Cab divers, people on the street ... I was happy to get the heck out of there. In NYC ... love getting lost there because people are so happy to help a soul out. Chicago, same way ... I also find people in Indiana happy to help someone who needs help.

The west coast is too lackadaisical for me. They people are nice, but just too blissed out, like if I ask them for directions, they'll send me somewhere else, but hey man, that's ok.

I found people in Seattle to be a lot like like midwesterners, only they pay a ton more for stuff!

The south is reknown for their friendliess ... I guess that's why they call it southern hospitality. But I find Miami to be too self centered and narcissitic ... AGAIN .. that's personal experience!

You were wearing your Colts gear, weren't you??

That's why they treated you that way. I knew you were a closet fan!
