TnTWalter is on a distinguished road
I have lived and traveled many places and Hoosiers do tend to be of the friendlier sort. They make eye contact with you and wish you a good day, etc. instead of keeping eyes down, etc. on the street. I've lived on the East Coast [RI, NJ] and it is different.

We had a contractor doing tile work in our bathroom and had him for dinner many a night...I swear he took longer because of that. LOL. Our neighborhood is one that bakes brownies for new folks, checks on each other's houses if a storm hits while they're out of town, etc.

I was just in Anna Maria, FL. Those folks are even friendlier!!

I just got back from a trip through the midwest and I found Indiana a mighty friendly place to be. We had to ask for directions more than once. People were good about telling us the best routes to take to get to the next city.

I did not go to the northern part of the state. Indianapolis was the most nothern city we hit. Still folks were pretty nice there. The southern part of the state has some very friendly people. It gets my vote for most friendly state.

Their was some people that pulled up next to the patrol car I was riding in( I'm a Police Explorer) that wasn't from around here and we gave them the fastest directions to get to where they needed to go. They were from California

I vote to rename OH "The Friendly State"!

I thought Chicagoans overall were some of the friendliest. I met many when I lived in FL but I also met one lady from Indiana who was real nice.
I met MANY from Chicago tho and whether it was in FL or talking on the internet with some who lived in Chicago area, it seems like they friendlier ppl on the whole.
Chicago vs Portland for example (since Oregon got mentioned)
Id pick Portland hands down especially due to the weather and the vibe Portland gives (and I been there too), however Im sure Chicago beats Portland up and down when it comes to friendliness and pizza for sure. I dont mind the cold aloof thing much tho as I come from MA.
Oregon and MA arent exactly similar, but I think some things match. It mighta been the Californians who moved to Oregon, but I thought Portland driving sometimes was rat race like with driver to driver relations, but real polite and friendly to pedestrians, go figure. Washington state Id say could be friendlier than Oregon but I dunno. Oregon ppl I compare to NH Id say. Hard call.
