Whatever. I've known a*holes from all over Indiana, and really awesome people, too. I honestly think Terre Haute (my hometown) is just flat out not friendly. Very uptight cold snotty unfriendly town. I went back there for a visit recently, after traveling around the Boston area, and thought people in Terre Haute were actually less friendly than Bostonians, which is saying a lot. Major attitude problems in Terre Haute. Don't know why. Got 4 colleges there, pretty town actually. Just a major self-esteem problem.

I vote for Maine, Washington, and Illinois as the friendliest states.

Massachusetts and Pennsylvania definitely rock-bottom.

Northern Indiana or Central Indiana?
Indianapolis is far enough away not to worry or be associated with NWI.
Northern Indiana/South Bend etc. now thats a different story.

I know people is South Bend, they call NWI "The Region" or simply "Northwest Indiana" or some even call it "Lake County"
