logansport hospital
Can anyone give me the 411 on Logans State Hosp. I am A nurse who has been offered a contract from my company to work there for a few weeks . All I know is that it is about 2hrs.+ southeast of my current location and all I have been told by severe people is Logansport is not the place for me to be. So obviously this frightens my husband and children as well as myself some, and makes me want to reconsider my contract and stay closer to my home. PLEASE HELP.

There have been a few threads on Logansport on this forum ... they are packed with great information that will, I guarantee it, help you formulate the best decision for you and your family.

From Logansport
I grew up in Logansport. My mom works at the State Hospital and my sister used to work there. I don't think the job is much different from other psychiatric hospitals. Logansport is what it is. It is a small town with not a whole lot going on. There are not a whole lot of job prospects there. Most people are in some type of factory work and at this point, that is scarce. There is only one hospital so your options as a nurse would be there, the State Hospital, or one of the nursing homes. I try and get back there once a month and it seems to me more and more run down each time I go. You could easily live in the country or in Kokomo which is much larger, more things to do and you would have a 30 minute commute. Lafayette is about 45 minutes away. I lived in W. Lafayette while I was at Purdue and hated it, though!! I have lived in Indianapolis for 5 years and I really love it here. More to do, better job opportunities, low cost of living. Kind of the big city without the big city negatives.
I don't think there is anything to be frightened of. Just make sure you have good job prospects and you shouldn't have any issues. The area isn't scary...my dad still leaves his doors unlocked most of the time. I think the only issue is the large increase in illegal immigration into the city because of the factory opportunities. I know that a lot of people that live there have concern about that, but otherwise, what you see is what you get.

2 Hospitals in Logansport
The State Hospital is not the only one in Logansport. There is the community hospital that is looking for many nurses to fill positions. Logansport Memorial Hospital. I about laughed when I read that the State Hospital was the only one. You do not know your town!

Cherrysparkle, please refer below:
"There is only one hospital so your options as a nurse would be there, the State Hospital, or one of the nursing homes."
Please read my post again. I said there is only one hospital which would refer to Logansport Hospital COMMA the state hospital COMMA one of the nursing homes. My indication was one traditional hospital, not a psychiatric one. Please look at the post more closely before you fall out of your chair laughing and insult the fact that I spent 19 years of my life there and visit regularly. There isn't a lot to know about Logansport.
