Hi, my family is considering moving to South Bend. My husband will be graduating from med school and doing a three year residency and there is a great opprotunity do to that with St. Joseph's. We have a toddler and want a neighborhood with parks and other young families that is located near the hospitol (a commute longer than 30 minutes is out of the question).

We will be on a tight budget so the house will have to be between $140,000-$160,000. From what I see on Remax there is a lot in the price range but I don't know what the neighborhoods are like. I've seen quite a few homes north of downtown and mapquest says it takes 15 minutes to get there but what about traffic? Do I want to stay clear of areas around Notre Dame?

Gilmer Park?
Roseland?
Miami Trails?

Any thoguhts would be great, thank you very much!

Default If you need childcare in South Bend . . .

I can recommend El Campito (1 year thru pre-k and afterschool childcare). It serves a diverse population of families and has a very dedicated staff that love working with children. My 2.5 year old really enjoys her two days a week in the program. I don't know the South Bend neighborhoods so I can't help you there. Wishing you a happy and successful transition.

since the new Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center will be at Edison Lakes, you would be better living in Granger. During christmas there can be pretty intense traffic near there due to all the shopping but all in all it would be within your 30min commute time.

There are quite a few residents from both St Joe and Memorial living in the Cross Creek subdivision.

Yep...that's what we've been finding, too. And the homes are very cute and still pretty reasonable. I think our top 2 or 3 choices are all in Cross Creek.

I am a Remax agent and can help you with your questions. There are many great areas within 15 minutes of the hospital. Please contact me and I can discuss some of the areas with you.
Thank you, Jeff

We are also moving to SB. We found a house in Granger and loved our Realtor. Hubby is almost done with residency so I know what you are going through! Anyway, I went to Saint Mary's and he went to ND. I also know that the Forest or Savannah Pass which is near Edison Lakes technically Mishawaka are really nice garden homes...great for families. Anyway, good luck with your move! In addition to reMax...look at cressy Everett.
