According to www.greatschools.net you want to be in the New Palestine elementary district rather than Sugar Creek elementary area. The ratings are better for that school if you're interested in New Palestine. Good Luck with your move. We moved from TX a couple of months ago.

we'll definitely check out New Palestine next time we are up there. Although, I am liking Columbus more and more. It appears to have a Sam's club (I like to buy in bulk (much to my Dh's dismay)--you always need a back-up, right?) And it seems to have a lot to offer. Oh well, no use fretting over it till it's official. Thanks for all of your help!

We're moving to Columbus and I'm keeping my Costco membership in Castleton ... just can't do Sam's Club.

Now that is loyalty! We have one Costco down here that I am aware of but I have never ventured that far to visit it. What's the difference? I will, however, drive just about any distance for a Whole Foods. I don't think there are any in Indiana but I think they just bought (or are buying) Wild Oats, and I think there is one in Indy, if I am remembering correctly which I may not be.

Whole Foods purchased Wild Oats (I remember when Whole Foods, bought out Fresh Fields ... I'm getting old). There is a Wild Oats in Clay Terrace.
I love Costco. All the employees are friendly and very helpful. Their stores are immaculate (at least the one I go to). They pay good wages and give good benefits. I love their fresh produce and homemade food (their chicken pot pie is to die for!). Being on the liberal end of the scale, I like that they support the blue side of the field. I'll make the trek up there once a month to stock up.

Hi, my husband travels from Columbus to Greensburg almost daily. It takes him 20-22 minutes from the east side of Columbus to Greensburg, about 35 minutes from the west side. As we are relocating to the area from out of state, I am not an Indiana expert. I have been "exploring" this area of Southwest Indiana quite a bit in the past 6 months and the following is just my opinion.
I do not think there is a huge difference, shopping/eating wise, in Shelbyville versus Greensburg. Nothing that really stood out to me. Shelbyville is definitely a little bigger and I would say more "white collar". However, I am assuming you know there is a huge Honda plant going up in Greensburg, I think that Greensburg is going to grow quickly. That could certainly be a good thing for real estate in Greensburg as well. Shelbyville will see some of that growth, but I think Greensburg will outpace Shelbyville in that area.
Another nice town that is close to Greensburg is Batesville. It is more of a "white collar" town as well. It is smaller then Greensburg, but the schools are excellent, very nice homes and only about 25 minutes from Cincinnati. Many of my husband’s business associates in Greensburg either live in or have recommended Batesville to us.
I like Columbus. It has most of what you need shopping/eating wise (although I understand the need for those certain stores not in Columbus. Mine: Trader Joe's!). The schools are good, although there are a few of the elementary schools that have very poor test scores. You can check the test scores at greatschools.net. As you mentioned, even if you do not have children in school, school ratings/test scores can definitely affect the sale of a home. Also, having Brown County and Nashville nearby is a plus.
I would strongly suggest that you visit the area and check out the different areas. Rushville is another nice town. It's small, but I think it is very charming, and until Greensburg builds up you will drive to get to any type of shopping beyond Wal-Mart. There are a couple restaurants and a fast food place or two, but that's about it.
I hope that my opinions have been somewhat helpful. Good luck with your possible move.

Thanks that is all good info. I am really excited. We should know in the next couple days/weeks if this is going to happen. And I am familiar with the Honda plant as it is the reason for our potential move. My sister loves Trader Joes. She has it in Columbus, Ohio. Where is the one you frequent? I have been dying to visit one. I didn't get a chance last time we were in Ohio. I have heard that they have a decent blended wine for 2 bucks? (Two Buck Chuck, maybe?) It sounded fun, but I wonder how it would taste? Although I am no connoisseur or anything, I wouldn't know the difference.
Domergurl, Costco sounds really nice, I'll have to check it out. It's good that they treat their employees well. Sam's, being a part of Wal-mart, has a reputation for not doing the right thing by their employees. I'd pay a little more for sure to shop where the service is better and the employees are happier and friendlier.
Googling Costco right now....
Cheers!

When I was at my Costco a couple days ago (getting the aforementioned chicken pot pie .. yum!), I asked them if they ever planned on opening a store in Greenwood or points south. They said that a Greenwood store is "in the works". Being in Columbus, I'll be halfway between my Castleton store and the store in Louisville.
As for TJ's, there are 2 and both are on the northside. One on the NW side at 86th & Township Line Road and the other on 82nd & Allisonville. Gotta get my 2 buck chuck!!! But I think it's 3 buck chuck by now.

It's 10AM here and I am hankering for a Chicken Pot Pie! (It isn't just for breakfast anymore!)
Hey, another good thing, all of the cities we are considering are Eastern Time. We currently live in CST and I have never really adjusted. All the good shows come on at 7pm and I miss them all cuz I am still getting dinner cleaned up. Last night I missed the Office and was bummed. I guess I should probably move into this century and get a DVR.
