Farmers Market and Fresh Chicken in Fort Wayne
Greetings.
One of sunday rituals in Fremont, California (Bay Area) used to be to go to Farmers' Market with my pre-teen daughter and pick up vegetables and fruits.
I miss that here in Fort Wayne.
I searched for them on the web and couldn't find them nearby in the South West Allen county area. Yesterday, I ran into a sign which mentioned about a Farmers market in Jefferson Pointe parking lot. But that is on Wednesdays - From something like 11 am to 6 pm. Those timings, unfortunately, won't work for me.
While I am on the food topic, let me ask this: is it possible to get fresh or frozen chicken which is not factory raised and not fed with growth hormone and heavy doses of anti-biotics? Meaning those which are raised in a sort of idyllic family farm. I can dream, can't I

Banyan, I used to live in FTW and there was a farmers market on the southside of town when I lived there. I cant recall the name of the street, but it wasnt too far off SR3. It was not large, not even close to what you probably experienced in CA, but it was better than the grocery stores. I suggest calling the chamber of commerce and see if they have any info on it.
Also, you can find organic/free range meats and chicken at the Fresh Market on Jefferson BL. If you want to spend an idyllic day, have a nice drive up to Shipshewana, about 55 miles from FTW, visit Yoders Meat Market where you can by Millers brand chicken which is antibiotic free, alone with freshly made sausages and many other goodies. Along the way I am sure you will see at least one sign or more for fresh eggs at the Amish farmhouses. I have not eaten any grocery store eggs for several years now. Heres a link to the Millers website which tells about the company and about their products:
Miller Amish Country Poultry
If you go to Shipshewana, dont miss stopping at the restaurant at 5&20 for breakfast or lunch!

Oh my ... jodyrose is on the mark .... you're on the edge of Amish country. I never ate a store bought egg, chicken or apple until I went to college because I used to go to Amish houses and buy their fantastic stuff!

Thank you guys. From their website, it looks like Jamison's shop on Illinois rd carries Amish poultry. I'll try the Fresh Market as well. It is close by as well.
