Camp Atterbury-attractions/food w/in 30-ish min drive?
Hi all,
I've been at CD for a few months now but this is my first post to the Indiana forum. We'll be near Camp Atterbury in early September - probably including labor day weekend when we'll have some time off to explore the area. Are there attractions or favorite restaurants you all can recommend that we could get to from Camp Atterbury within a 30 minute or so drive?
I've heard Columbus, IN has some interesting architectural tours - anything else to recommend a visit to that town? Also, we love Indian food and Caribbean food - any recommendations along those lines, or of favorite/can't miss restaurants & sites in the vicinity of Camp Atterbury will be much appreciated!
We'll be flying in and out of Indianapolis so a couple recommendations for that area - food and such - would be great too.
Thanks in advance for your feedback

Here's are a couple places off the top of my head:
Zaharakos Ice Cream Parlor Wonderful newly restored soda fountain. Have a dip of butter pecan with warm caramel sauce ... seriously, it's to die for.
http://www.notjustpopcorn.com/ in Edinburgh ... a hidden gem ... ever tried dill pickle popcorn???
Columbus, Indiana Convention and Visitors Bureau The portal for all things columbus.
Welcome!!!

Everything DG said of course.
Also in Columbus, I love Culvers {actually I love Culvers in general but the one in Columbus is in my top 3 locations} There's also a Captain D's Seafood {one of only 8 in the whole state} and just about every chain on the planet.
For entertainment I love the people trail, parks system and the historic tours as well. Also kerasotes theaters have a location in town {not too far from Culver's, actually  }
Closer to post, I love the museum at Camp A. It's actually a decent size, bigger than most people expect given the size of the facility. Camp Atterbury (CAJMTC) > Facilities > Museum
About 10 minutes from the main gate of CA is the Edinburgh Premium Outlet. A local winery and a local choclatier both have storefronts here, and both pass have tastings/samples nearly all the time Edinburgh Premium Outlets show your military or dependant ID at the Outlet office on the east side of the facility for a coupon book good for an average of 15% off at nearly every store
The quickest route to CA from Indianapolis International is 465 to 65 South, which will take you past Southside Harley Indianapolis Southside Harley-Davidson Buell Motorcycle Dealer Indiana Lots of historic pictures, beautiful bikes, clothes etc. Family owned and operated for almost 100 years. {my grandfather used to ride & race with the family so I am kind of partial to the place}
There is alot more but most of my links are on my home computer so I'll have to come back to this later.

Great tips, thanks! I'll be sure to ask about the military discount. The museum and people trail sounds right up my alley, too. Haven't heard of Culvers but will look it up and...duh, me - totally forgot about movies - it'll be a nice date night since we rarely do get out to the movies anymore If you have a chance to post your other ideas, I'd love to see them!

Awesome blossom - thanks plaidmom! All of those are great ideas for us. I'm not a beer drinker but my husband loves microbrews - what a great surprise that will be for him I'm really looking forward to this visit now - you all have been such a help!

Hi all, Just wanted to thank you again for your suggestions. We were near Columbus earlier this month and visited Edinburgh Outlets, Passage to India, Zaharakos, and Culvers and enjoyed them all - especially Zaharakos and Passage to India
